ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Florida Center for Cybersecurity (also known as Cyber Florida), hosted by the University of South Florida, is charged by state statute to establish Florida as a national leader in cybersecurity through education, research, and community outreach. By law, the Center works with the 12 institutions of higher learning that comprise the State University System of Florida and other dedicated partners from industry, government, and the military to achieve this three-pronged mission. To that end, Cyber Florida receives a state appropriation, as well as funding and in-kind resources from various grants, contracts, and other contributions, and among other things, we dedicate those funds and resources to:
- Inspire future cyber professionals by introducing cybersecurity programs to K-12, undergraduate, and graduate students throughout the state.
- Ensure that college and university degree and certificate programs align with industry and government needs to produce ready-for-hire graduates.
- Champion traditional and non-traditional pathways for women, minorities, veterans, and other career changers to enter cybersecurity to help address our state and our nation’s critical cyber workforce shortage.
- Invest in cutting-edge research that yields new insights and contributes to our nation’s competitive edge in cyberspace.
- Engage millions of Floridians through statewide and targeted cybersecurity awareness programs to help protect those populations and organizations most vulnerable to cybercrime.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Partnerships and Policy is a subject matter expert and lead administrator responsible for overseeing partnerships and public policy efforts at Cyber Florida. Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director of Partnerships and Policy will manage a team that facilitates the development of funding opportunities, strategic partnerships, and cybersecurity policy recommendations.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
This position will be assigned to Cyber Florida as the operational unit at the University of South Florida. The ideal candidate is a creative leader, logistically oriented, highly dependable with superior organization, communication build and optimizing relationships, and strategic skills. The candidate should be comfortable communicating in front of small and large groups and executing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced team environment. Participates in periodic assessments of program effectiveness and/or changing needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Partnerships
- Identify partnerships and funding opportunities (including grants) that will promote Cyber Florida's mission of leveraging Florida as the home of cyber security research, outreach, and education. Follows up with current partners and potential partners to expand the relationship between Cyber Florida and the partner.
- Researches the latest trends in technology and uses this knowledge to bring the most effective partnership opportunities to Cyber Florida.
- Attends industry and academic conferences to promote Cyber Florida mission and build departmental contacts.
- Oversees the management of Cyber Florida governance groups and meetings.
- Performs any other administrative duties that are required in support of the mission and strategy of the center.
- May manage various projects through initial phases.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or other appropriate administrator.
Policy
- Familiar with Florida’s legislative session.
- Remain aware of state and federal cyber policy and legislative initiatives.
- Manage the development and submission of state and federal policy proposals, white papers, requests for information, etc.
- Oversees logistics with the intent to produce Cyber Florida public policy outcomes.
- Service as liaison for USF legislative affairs department.
- Oversee all policy efforts to make recommendations and influence cyber policies across the state.
Additional Responsibilities
- Oversee the development efforts in coordination with the USF Foundation.
- Promote and inspire collective commitment by giving and receiving actionable, productive feedback and modeling productive relationships, high morale, and a relentless focus on the mission of Cyber Florida.
- A minimum of 25% Travel is required to attend partnership-related events, conferences, and meetings across the US.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a business or related discipline with six years of experience in business operations, strategic planning, implementation planning, and risk management.
Requires Criminal History Background Check
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred experience in an academic center/institute, not-for-profit, or private sector organization is desired. Ability to present cybersecurity-related topics to diverse constituents and articulate technical subject matter to non-technical audiences.
- Proactive and teamwork-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent speaking, presenting, and teaching skills.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with all team members and the university.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
