LOCATION: Springfield, MA

POSITION: Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Fleet

ORGANIZATION: Fleet

SHIFT: 2nd

PAY RATE: Entry: $32,24, Step 2: $36,45, Step 3: $39.76, Step 4: $42,46, Step 5: $48,58

DEFINITION:

Perform all the duties of an Auto Mechanic, including but not limited to:

  • Consult with drivers regarding vehicle and equipment problems.
  • Help drivers determine the appropriate 3rd party service providers that should be used to resolve the problem.
  • Diagnose problems prior to repairs, evaluate vehicles after repairs are made, as appropriate.
  • Interface with commercial garages, as needed, to answer questions and ensure repairs are effective and as expected.
  • Support ARI in identifying when work should be performed under warranty.
  • Perform minor repairs including, but not limited to, light bulbs, wipers, limited wiring, fuses, battery replacement, decals, equipment troubleshooting, etc.
  • Perform work or diagnose on specialized equipment such as MDT, MDT mount, and Mueller Tapping Equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and limited repair of equipment such as inverters, generators, compressors, hydraulics etc.
  • Minor repairs and adjustments of body components such as toolboxes, door, seals, mud flaps, etc.
  • Repairs of pneumatic tools and small engine equipment such as jackhammers, drills, compactors, generators, pumps, etc. Provide road service due to breakdowns, dead batteries broken hydraulic lines, flat tires, etc.
  • Will NOT provide tow service.
  • Pre- qualify vehicles for Mass and DOT inspections. Prepare vehicles for disposal (remove decals, equipment, etc.)
  • Perform backhoe repairs such as replace bucket teeth, repair hydraulic hoses and leaks, repair bushings, and grease fittings.
  • Execute all forms and reports as required,
  • Document all work / repairs performed in fleet data bases.
  • Works closely with the Working Foreperson Garage and must communicate via email to Supervision and others on Fleet issues.
  • May be assigned other fleet work as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Possess and retain unrestricted Class A/CDL Vehicle Operator's License, or be willing to train and qualify for license within 12 months after assignment to the classification. External candidates will have up to 6 months to obtain.
  • Pass DOT physical and maintain required certifications
  • Applicant will be required to furnish evidence of capabilities as a Technician.
  • Must be familiar with current auto technology and have (3 years) acceptable experience as an automobile/heavy duty truck technician and be able to demonstrate capabilities of performing the operations listed above.
  • Have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be dependable, have courteous manner, be in good physical condition.
  • Must be willing and able to accept emergency assignments outside the normal working hours, and work anywhere in the Springfield EGMA Division, including Easthampton MOD, in case of need as determined by the company.
  • This position is subject to DOT Anti-Drug Plan and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations

SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. This schedule is subject to change for operational needs and in accordance with the Labor Agreement.

WAGE PROGRESSION:

Eligible for increases to max wage rate in accordance with the labor agreement.

Successful candidates must live within a 30 minute response time of assigned reporting location.
