Summary: The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District and Board Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher will also develop and foster relationships with staff, parents, students and the community.

- Encourages the development of the love of music by students.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and at assigned times.
- Works in coordination with the high school band director and assist with the high school marching band
- Strong instructional skills in vocal and movement techniques.
- Experience in motivating students of all abilities.
- Plans and directs age-appropriate music productions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods.
- Actively participate in regular staff and professional development activities.
- Teaches district approved curriculum.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional material in accordance with district provided curriculum.
- Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Comprehends and imparts the content of applicable grade level and subject curriculum.
- Communicates with students and parents regularly and clearly in an interactive way outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve and effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and report cards.
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Understands that the work week in education cannot be interpreted literally and may require work outside of the regular work day in accordance with the FEA contract.
- Willingness to learn and understand current education strategies and curriculum
- Teaches developmentally appropriate lessons following assigned curriculum guidelines
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with grade level teachers and with teachers across grade levels.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
- Attends IEP Meetings to plan for students with special needs.
- Speaks, hears, sees and writes clearly with or without assistive device(s).
- Walks and stands for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options.
- Adheres to all Board and District policies
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, (JQ or JX Endorsement)
- Must meet ESSA requirements
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with grade level teachers and with teachers across grade levels
- Familiarity with course content standards and expectations
- Willingness to learn and understand current educational strategies and curriculum
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Basic understanding, knowledge and ability to use current technology and the ability to incorporate it into the classroom
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Junior High instruction
- Has experience teaching developmentally appropriate lessons following assigned curriculum guidelines
- Provide students with a safe and orderly environment for learning
- Ability to relate positively and communicate curriculum effectively with students, parents, staff and the community
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear
- The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers
