Premier non-profit is seeking a Behavior Specialist for one of its vastly growing programs. Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year round comprehensive education and treatment program, servicing children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders. Founded in 1988 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching methodologies in improving the lives of individuals with ASD and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, vocational skills, and assessment & treatment of challenging behavior.
As a Behavior Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Protecting the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extending these rights and dignities to family members or guardians
- Developing individual student goals and objectives (curriculum)
- Participating in the development and implementation of individual student treatment/educational programs desired to treat undesired behaviors
- Developing and maintaining appropriate behavior analytic measurement systems for individual student goals and objectives in both adaptive skill areas and problem behavior areas
- Implementing instructional strategies consistently and accurately across school and community settings as prescribed by the Program Director and/or Supervising Behavior Analyst
- Implementing relevant staff management support systems; Consulting with Director, designated behavior analyst and other therapists, as needed
- Organizing structure of educational environments, and coordinating services in public school settings, including transitional/ “inclusion” services
- Training classroom teachers, behavior technicians, and community-based treatment staff in implementation of behavior analytic teaching methods
- Assisting in the training and orientation of new staff; providing co-workers with positive and constructive feedback
- Sustaining knowledge of current practices in applied behavior analysis
- Communicating any medical, physical, or other changes in student status to the program Director, guardian, and the clinical team
- Developing and managing research projects as designated by the Director
- Utilizing appropriate communication systems, including logs and direct communication to staff and supervisors
- Implementing behavioral measurement systems, collect accurate data across all aspects within the program. For example, but not limited to: toileting, discrete trial instruction, behavior, natural environment, maintaining client records, etc.
- Performing other duties and job assignments as required by the Director
Education/ Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in related field (i.e., psychology or special education)
- A minimum of two years of experience working with students diagnosed with autism or similar diagnosis utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods
- Certification as a BCaBA is preferred
- Enrollment in applied behavior analytic graduate coursework is highly preferred
- Experience developing individual student curriculum preferred as well as experience in training others to implement behavior analytic teaching practices and behavioral/educational measurement procedures
- Skills in effective communication with parents and community-based stakeholders is essential
- Experience with behavior analytic research projects, dissemination of research/applied work (publications/presentations), and grant writing strongly considered
- Must successfully pass BCI and CANTs screenings
- Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and automobile insurance
- Must have access to personal vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport

Location Description
Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year round comprehensive education and treatment program servicing children with autism and other related disorders. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching strategies in improving the lives of children with autism and other related developmental disorders and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, and assessment and treatment of challenging behavior. A one-to one ratio of behavior technicians trained in Applied Behavior Analysis is typically utilized, although small and large group instruction may be used with students who achieve the skills to learn in such settings. A comprehension system of student evaluation allows for daily refinement of students programs. Behavior Analyst’s train, supervise and collaborate with Special Education Teacher’s, Behavior Technician’s, Related Service Professionals and community based treatment staff in implementation of behavior analytic teaching methodologies. Individual student curriculum and programs are designed to treat problem behavior and teach socially appropriate skills. Relevant measurement systems are used ongoing to assess student progress. Pathway’s provides opportunity to conduct research projects and works closely with local University’s and College’s.
