Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Bioinformatics Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Cancer Institute (NCI) located in Bethesda, MD.
Overall Position Summary and Objectives The Contractor shall provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Can-cer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The primary objective is to provide services and deliv-erables through performance of support services.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to modifying, managing and entering data into the Tracking Database; search the tracking database monthly to look for studies first entered with the P number and up-date those P numbers to the final IRB number once the study has been approved. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to testing the Data Sharing (DS) portal, making required modifications, planning and executing the launch; ensure that GDS requirements are incorporated into the new PROTECT protocol systems and develop an SOP; conduct DS training for all new CCR investigators, Clinical Fellows and DS Lab/Branch leads. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to identifying and developing strong and effective communications with CCR lab/branch DS lead administrators to improve compliance. - Ad- Hoc
- Work products and documents related to completing all data pulls required for Annual and Quarterly Reports to CCR and OSP; develop and update SOPs on Data Sharing Plans, Institutional Certification Memos and Exception Requests when the new portal and all other CCR Data Sharing operations as indicated. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to conducting bioinformatics data analysis and statistical analyses; prepare data for abstracts and manuscripts; write and review documentation, including summaries, reports and presentations.- Ad-Hoc
- Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data.
- Collaborate with CCR Annual Reporting System administrator to enhance ARC to maintain and revise when indicated as the GDS Policy evolves to allow reporting of Data Management and Sharing Plans and compliance as part of required project (Z01) Annual Reporting
- Establish a different infrastructure for tracking biorepository studies and develop a corresponding SOP documenting the procedures.
- Serve as the primary contact addressing investigator queries and for all lab/branch DS queries. 1
- Respond to any e-mails from Investigators and the Protocol Support Office. 2
- Assist CCR investigators with data formatting and uploads into dbGaP or other repositories as required. 4
- Performs computations on research data analysis.
- Modify, support, and enter data into the Tracking Database. 5
- Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.
- Establish searching capacity for CCR studies using PROTECT
- Develop a corresponding SOP documenting mechanisms for data pulls from the portal.
- Build portal capacity working with CBIIT to enable the submission of Data Management and Sharing Plansbased on the expanded policy
- Ensure Data Sharing requirements are incorporated into PROTECT protocol systems and develop and maintain the SOP.
- Develop a point of care decision support tool for completing Data Management and Sharing Plans.
- Identify and develop strong and effective communications with CCR lab/branch Data Sharing lead administrators to improve compliance.
- Develop and update SOPs on Data Sharing Plans, Institutional Certification Memos and Exception Requests when the new portal and all other CCR Data Sharing operations as indicated.
- Records observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings.
- Search tracking database monthly to look for studies first entered with the P number and update those P numbers to the final IRB number once the study has been approved.
- Develop a corresponding SOP documenting the above procedure.
- Perform compliance monitoring
- Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.
- Maintain the CCR Data Sharing portal and CCR Wiki page as the Policy evolves, including working with CBIIT to make required modifications, plan and execute any changes to the portal. 3
- Perform data entry
- Perform dbGaP Study registration.
- Pull reports quarterly from Tracking Database when required
- Perform Biorepository Protocol Tracking
- Conduct Data Sharing training for all new CCR investigators, Clinical Fellows and GDS Lab/Branch leads.
- Complete all data pulls required for Annual and Quarterly Reports to CCR and OSP.

Minimum Education
Master’s
Additional Qualifications:
Certifications & Licenses
- A Master’s degree, in a science field such as Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related field
- One (1) year of experience in scientific research or related field
- Computer Science
- Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint)
- Basic knowledge of computer science, systems analysis, and systems programming
- Biology/science background and/or experience/familiarity with science terminology
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
