Position Summary: The district court is seeking a part-time judicial hospitalization referee for Johnson County. The referee must be available to conduct hearings with AOT (Assisted Outpatient Treatment) Program participants on Tuesday or Wednesday. Salary $1,218.75 per month. No fringe benefits are included as part of compensation.

Position Location: Johnson County HHS Building, 855 S Dubuque Street, Iowa City, IA 52240

Hours: Part-time, one day per week (Tuesday or Wednesday)

Pay: $14,625 annually/$1,218.75 per month

Responsibilities: Agreement between the Iowa Judicial Branch and the Mental Health/Disability Services of the East Central Region.

Primary duties are:

• 
  To preside over the civil mental health court and conduct status review hearings for respondents on outpatient committals.
• To collaborate with the AOT team to ensure respondents receive necessary services and to interact with participants in such a way that encourages and supports active program participation and sustained treatment adherence.
• To determine whether continued outpatient commitment, return to full time hospitalization, or dismissal is appropriate for the respondent, in consultation with the treating providers.
• To conduct commitment hearings pursuant to the relevant provisions of the Iowa Code, if needed.
• To issue appropriate orders based on the evidence presented at the status conference or review hearing.
• To help in establishing the AOT program.

An Iowa law license is required. Substantial experience with commitment proceedings is preferred.
