Clinical Coordinator - Adult Reconstructive Surgery

Carilion Clinic's Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences (ION) is an innovative convergence of leading medical practitioners who provide expert care to patients. It serves as a model for medical students, research fellows, and residents—the next generation of providers. ION provides a shared vision of collaboration and a team-based approach to healing. The Department of Orthopaedics is the first in southwest and western region of Virginia to earn the advanced-level certification for hip and knee joint replacement surgeries from The Joint Commission. As a Joint Coordinator, you promote collaboration among multiple interdisciplinary teams and provide both staff and patient education. Coordinators provide direct and indirect patient care as needed; oversee the delivery of patient care; and provides day to day management of programs to coordinate patient care as designated by the department. Patients attend Joint Academy Class taught by the Joint Coordinators to prepare for their upcoming joint surgery. In addition, coordinators participate in data collection for the Joint Commission certification and present data trends at the monthly Joint Council meetings. The Total Joint Coordinators explain and educate all details from the admission process to managing post-operative pain. This role is vital in ensuring patients are informed and prepared for surgery as well as being an instrumental part of maintaining the Advanced Certification with The Joint Commision.
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3 years of RN experience required. 2 years experience in relevant specialty or department, as defined by the department, preferred (i.e. hospital setting, vascular, rehab, long-term care, home health, cardiology, ambulatory, surgery)
Licensure: Current Virginia RN licensure. Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirement. Must obtain & maintain appropriate certifications as defined by the department: * ACLS, Conscious Sedation, CCRN, ONC, Pain Management and other modailty specific certifications (ex. cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, vascular) certifications preferred. Valid Driver's license required for employees working in Home Health or departments where the work requires travel.
Life Support: AHA-BSL required within 1 year.
Other: Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills required. Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, organization and effective judgement abilities required. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation requirements. Must be able to meet essential job functions. Designated areas may require Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and other third party payor regulations * Position is deemed emergency personnel during emergency weather conditions.
