Taunton State Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Social Worker for the Social Work Department on a part-time basis. This position will develop psychosocial assessments; develop treatment plans; provide clinical social work services to patients, including individual, group and family treatment; and coordinates discharge planning under the supervision from a clinical social worker of a higher grade who provides guidance on policy, assigns work, and reviews performance.


Please Note: This position is 20 hours per week. The incumbent will work from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Days off are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday.


Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Obtains information through interviews with patients, relatives and community based mental health professionals to provide psychosocial assessment for treatment planning.
  • Attends interdisciplinary treatment conferences to present psychosocial data for the purpose of developing and reviewing treatment plans.
  • Provides clinical social work services to patients and their families, using various treatment approaches in both individual and group treatment for the purpose of increasing patient’s level of functioning and to educate families.
  • Coordinates discharge planning for patients by means of treatment planning conferences involving patients, relatives, community caregivers and team members to insure the most appropriate living and aftercare arrangements.
  • Participates in supervision on a regular basis and through case review and discussion is instructed in improving diagnostic and treatment skills.
  • Continues to improve skills through the completion of all mandatory staff development classes and participation in social work-related continuing education programs.
  • Data entry of a confidential nature is performed in a timely and accurate fashion in keeping with established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to the age related, cultural and spiritual needs of the patients served.

About Taunton State Hospital

Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 45-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital is a leader in the successful integration of the Principles of Recovery and a rehabilitation philosophy into the treatment model and a part of the Southeast Area which works closely with the inpatient treatment teams to facilitate patients’ discharge back to the community.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: None. (See Required Education and Licenses.)

REQUIRED EDUCATION: A Master's or higher degree in social work.

LICENSES: Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.

  • Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work.
