Currently seeking a Qualified Team Member to serve our Research and Development department as our Product Code and Compliance Engineer. This role will work closely with other LDI employees to ensure doors assembled at LDI are the highest quality in the industry and meet all voluntary and required codes and certifications.
HOURS: Monday-Friday 7am-3:45pm (This is an in office position)
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keep updated on relevant codes, certifications and test methods for Lynden Door products, including; components, door slabs and installed systems.
- Ensure all components and door slabs are compliant with codes and certification. Work with Alliance Door Products and customers to ensure systems with LDI doors are compliant with codes and certifications. This will include 3rd party certified products (like fire, NAF and STC rated doors) as well as voluntary performance that we state we meet (such as WDMA Heavy Duty or STC 46).
- Be the primary representative with 3rd party testing and certification agencies. This will include being present for all physical audits for fire doors, FSC Chain-Of-Custody and other audits (not including OSHA or other safety related topics).
- Will be the fire door technical expert at LDI. Update all product data sheets. Work with Purchasing, Production, Sales, Marketing and others to accurately and quickly edit existing product data sheets and write new product data sheets as needed.
- Responsible for all aspects related to fire door testing and listings. Be the primary point of contact with ITS.
- Attend and actively participate in industry association meetings relevant to the position. This will include WDMA, CPA, ASTM and other meetings. A report will be written after each meeting to summarize the discussion topics and action items.
- Complete testing of materials and doors to verify performance.
- Measure and Inspect materials and products to ensure they meet the labeled specifications.
- Assist in writing SOPs, Material Specifications and Test Methods
- Actively work with others to solve codes and certification related problems when they arise.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and lab cleanliness
- Input data from testing into worksheets and review results to ensure they are accurate
- Provide conclusions and recommendations based on results from testing
- Assist LDI to maintain production vision of "PEOPLE FIRST, TIME, QUALITY THROUGH PROCESS IMPROVEMENT"
- Assist LDI to improve existing products, develop new products and provide technical support for customer complaints
- Able to lift and move 50 pound doors safely
- Able to drive a forklift and operate other wood working tools and equipment.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Experience and knowledge of door manufacturing (can be and will be trained on this).
- Able to read and accurately interpret building codes, industry standards, certification requirements and other technical documents.
- Excellent communicator. Able to clearly communicate to all LDI employees and customers what the codes, standards and technical documents mean and how they affect LDI products.
- Technical writing skills.
- Quality Conscious, even when it is not the easiest path.
- Mechanical aptitude. Basic equipment operation and maintenance (saw, glue spreader, press, caliper, oven, tensile tester,...)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Solutions minded resolving issues and not just identify problems.
- Self-motivated, confident, energetic, and creative
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (not required)
- At least 1 year of production experience with door assembly.
- BA or BS degree in science or engineering related major
- Project Management Certification
- DHI-DHT Credential

TRAVEL
- Travel will be required, including international travel to Canada. Travel will be high some months and none in other months. Travel will primarily be to attend meetings, complete fire door certification testing, meet with suppliers and customers.
