Job description
Responsible for the preparation of estimates primarily for commercial parking structures and large commercial concrete footings and foundations. Other estimates could include commercial buildings (apartment complex, office buildings, and vertical builds).
In this role, you will participate in various Design-Build and/or CMAR preconstruction projects. The Concrete Estimator will participate regularly with the Preconstruction and Design Team during the preconstruction period. This individual must have the ability to deliver high-level detailed estimates at the initial project stage and efficiently function by reviewing design options, and recommending best solutions based on cost, methods of construction, market trends, etc. Qualified individuals will have experience with cast-in-place concrete estimating.
Duties:
- Review proposal specifications, and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Provide conceptual, hard bid, and final estimating input on complex projects.
- Provide specific specification division estimates for assigned bids.
- Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
- Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
- Assist operations department during preparation of inquiries and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college, technical school or university in Engineering or Construction Management
- 7+ years of commercial estimating experience
- 7+ years of reading (in English) and analyzing and responding to engineering drawings, technical plans, purchase orders, and contracts.
- 7+ years of responding to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- 7+ years of presenting information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Good knowledge of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and calculate mathematical extensions. Also, good knowledge of geometric formulas and equations are required to calculate area, volume, etc. in performing take-offs.
- 7+ years of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- General understanding of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
