What You'll Do

Participate in and lead activities supporting the development and implementation of the Control Management Engineering organization. Control Management Engineers (CMEs) will be responsible for the management, maintenance and implementation of nuclear safety controls at the Pantex Plant. Candidates will support the execution of PLN-0137, Control Owner Program Vision and Improvement Plan (COPIP), and directly contribute to the development of the new CME organization.

Key roles and responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring initial and continued implementation and maintenance of nuclear safety controls
  • Acting as the implementation authority and integration lead across the Pantex Plant for assigned controls
  • Interfacing with internal/external organizations completing oversight/surveillance activities (NPO, DNFSB, Independent Assessments, etc.)
  • Acting as main POC for implementation of assigned controls
  • Supporting control development
  • Ensuring training is developed and maintained for implementers
  • Monitoring and completing change control
  • Participating/Leading issues management related to controls
  • Supporting Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) re-verification reviews

CMEs will develop a wide range of plant knowledge including nuclear safety, engineering, and operations as the integration lead for nuclear safety control implementation. CMEs will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams of technical personnel and subject matter experts (SMEs) to solve complex work problems.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a Master's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a PhD in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
    • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2).

Preferred Job Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science [Chemistry, Physics, or related] from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. Typical experience could range from two to fifteen plus years.

  • Effective communicator with ability to lead teams, and foster teamwork
  • Knowledge of Pantex Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs), Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), and site policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of 10CFR830, Nuclear Safety Management

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
