JOB SUMMARY: The CT Technologist performs quality CT scans. Responsibilities also include assisting the radiologists and other staff physicians with invasive procedures, patient scheduling, clerical and image processing functions, participating in the CT call plan, managing the flow of patients and processes, and working in general diagnostic radiology when needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an American Medical Association approved School of Radiologic Technology. Two years experience as a staff Registered Radiologic Technologist.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Valid registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs duties of CT Technologist.
• Adheres to the ALARA guidelines.
• Modifies technical factors to obtain high quality images.
• Performs quality images following protocols.
• Knowledge of all CT equipment.
• Knowledge of darkroom equipment and procedures.
• Orders any supplies needed.
• Assesses patient for specific needs and performs patient care.
• Assesses patient for barriers to learning and physical limitations.
• Explains procedure and works at a pace the patient can tolerate mentally and physically.
• Prepares parent/responsible party of infants, children for CT procedures.
• Uses equipment specific to size and age of infants, children, adolescents and adults.
• Provides a safe environment while in Radiology Department. Does not leave infants, children or mentally challenged adults unattended.
• Completes procedures in a logical sequence and in a timely manner.
• Follows procedures per Radiology policy with knowledge and compliance with all age specific limitations as outlined. Communication and interaction with radiologist and other physicians
• Relays pertinent information to the radiologist on the patients condition
• Assist physicians in locating patients information and/or radiographs
• Processes physicians orders and instructions for patient care
• Clarifies and confirms orders according to established protocols
• Calls physicians when call reports have been dictated
• Relays information to and from physician for patient Administers contrast according to protocol.
• Obtains medical history concerning allergies and diabetes.
• Obtain/record blood pressure, obtain creatinine is per Radiologist protocol.
• Contrast is administered through an IV or venous access according to LMH protocol.
• Observes patient for infiltrate while administering contrast.
• Observes patient for changes prior, during and post procedure for contrast reaction. Critics film for proper positioning, anatomy and technical factors.
• Recognizes normal anatomy as well as abnormal anatomy that would require additional imaging or special patient care.
• Evaluates film for contrast, density, artifacts and makes acceptable decision on film quality. Provides patient and family education.
• Explains procedure to patient and family members.
• Keeps patient informed while waiting before, during and after procedure(s).
• Continuously updates patient education material.
• Givens post procedural instructions.
• Utilizes Radiology Information System appropriately.
• Follows established procedure to sign on and off RIS to insure desired security.
• Knows mnemonics and performs appropriate task for: Schedule patients, Order entry, Start procedure, Complete/Charge procedure, Release patient, Clerical duties and documentation of information, Accurately and promptly documents in a legible manner, Maintains patient folders and reports
• Can operate copiers and fax machines.
• Maintains a safe environment.
• Wears proper PPE.
• Reports all broken equipment and places equipment out of service.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Completes 24 hours of required continuing educations every two years

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Lifting requirements includes lifting/transferring patients, X-ray supplies and movement of equipment.
• Exposure to hazardous substances; patient care environment, infectious diseases, body fluids, processor chemicals, and ionizing radiation.
• Subject to many interruptions.
• Contact with patients, family members, visitors, coworkers and medical staff under a wide variety of circumstances.
• The ability to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and older adult patients.
