Job description
We encourage you to apply to become an AmeriCorps VISTA member with Turning the Page, a dynamic organization providing parents in D.C. public schools with critical skills and educational resources to become more active and effective participants in their children’s education. A TTP priority in the coming school year is to provide parents with as much support as possible as students continue their recovery from educational challenges they faced during the pandemic. Turning the Page will thus be addressing the learning loss that may have occurred because of the pandemic and remote learning; providing parents with concrete steps they can take to support learning in the home, collaborate with their children’s teachers, and identify supplemental community resources. Our VISTA members this coming year will play an integral role in ensuring that Turning the Page has the capacity to continue to provide this critical service to parents and families in Washington, DC. AmeriCorps*VISTA members at TTP participate in activities across TTP and receive valuable experience learning how nonprofits work. Their year of service will provide VISTA members with new skill-sets leading to a wide variety of career choices. TTP VISTA members have gone on to teach, join the staff of varied non-profits, entered graduate programs, and more.
Member Duties : As Turning the Page’s Development Associate VISTA you will be specifically responsible for supporting TTP’s family engagement programs by building TTP’s capacity around development, operations, and social media, and by enhancing and implementing our Carpe Librum used bookstore fundraising efforts. Duties include: Support the Development Manager with researching and applying to new grants; Support the tracking and stewardship of grantors and donors to ensure continued funding for TTP’s family engagement programs; Help plan and support TTP’s fundraising book sales; Recruit and manage volunteers, as applicable; Document program activities and outcomes to enhance the quality of grant proposals through photography, interviews, video, and written observations; Create an online silent auction for annual fundraiser; and manage TTPs social media platforms by creating original content, user-generated content, and launching social media campaigns to build engagement and increase client base.
