Directional Drill Operator / Locator

B & D Excavating, Inc. is hiring a full-time Directional Drill Operator / Locator. In business for over 25 years, B & D Excavating, Inc. specializes in Directional Drilling, Trenching, Duct Bank, Underground Utilities, and Site Development in the Virginia, Maryland, DC, WV areas.

If you are a self-starter who is motivated to perform quality work, have excellent communication skills, are a team player, and can safely operate directional drilling, excavation, and other equipment, you may be the Directional Drill Operator / Locator we are looking for.

Description:

The position of Directional Drill Operator / Locator requires the individual to possess the physical and mental ability to perform the job for a minimum of 8-12 hours per day, in all weather conditions. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, be dependable, responsible, and committed to producing quality work.

Required skills and knowledge:

• Will be responsible for and must have experience operating a directional drill and/or locator installing conduit/cable for underground utilities.
• Must be willing and able to perform manual labor related tasks to support projects as directed by the Crew Leader, Foreman, or Superintendent.
• Work on a variety of tasks within any given day.
• Have a working knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments, in all seasons, and weather conditions.
• Perform a wide variety of manual tasks to include pipe assembly, pipe cutting, pipe laying, and handle physically demanding construction duties.
• Digs holes, ditches, and trenches.
• Able to lift moderate to heavy items; up to 75 pounds alone, more with help. Be able to withstand pulling, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and squatting.
• Must wear safety toe boots, long pants and four-inch sleeves on shirts. PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, class 3 vests, and gloves) are required and will be provided.
• Must pass pre-employment physical/drug screening.
• Follow company’s health and safety culture, policies.
• Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, customers, and others.
• Must be able to work well as a team and independently.
• Be able to keep up in a fast-paced environment and work efficiently under deadlines and pressure.
• Must be able to follow directions.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of directional drilling experience.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
• CDL with tanker endorsement strongly desired.
• Must have transportation to and from job sites daily.
