The Director, Finance position is responsible for overseeing the Cost Accounting, Operational Accounting, and Inventory Management of ZYGO Corporation. The position focuses on providing high-quality analysis and building business partnerships across all business functions in order to assist management in decision making, attainment of financial goals and optimization of return on investment. The Director, Finance will be located at the Zygo HQ in Middlefield, CT and will manage a small team of finance professionals located in multiple sites in the US.
Essential Functions
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
As lead financial partner to the Zygo Operations team, manage a team of financial analysts and accountants and provide thoughtful guidance and goal setting to elevate the performance of the team as value-added business partners across the enterprise.
Oversee all Cost Accounting for operations at six (6) sites. Drive improved visibility into the internal operations of each plant (i.e. absorption, production variances) along with inventory optimization.
Provide insightful analysis into business results along with recommendations for areas of improvement. Support business proposals with profitability analysis including government contracts. Assist the forecasting & budgeting process with gross margin, factory absorption and production variance analysis.
Develop, implement, and maintain cost accounting and inventory policies and procedures to improve transparency of the cost accounting function and to assist the VP, Business Unit Controller in building a more transparent wide-ranging set of activities and maintaining compliance with related corporate policies.
Support the implementation of ERP system upgrades (and any new implementations as the result of acquisitions), especially on the costing, inventory management and production control applications. Ensure the ERP set-ups are optimized for cost and profitability analysis.
Maintain a robust control environment with respect to the costing side of the process related to revenue recognition including the adoption of the ASC 606 revenue recognition standard.
Qualifications
Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP, SEC rules and regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
Public company experience. Experience in manufacturing and fast paced growth oriented company required.
Strong ability and experience in managing and motivating a diverse team of finance professionals.
M&A experience preferred but not required.
Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting. An MBA or CPA qualification is desired.
Experience with foreign currency, foreign sales and foreign operations desired due to Zygo’s global presence and operations in Europe and Asia.
Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for getting things done; focused on details and ensuring accuracy.
Strong, proactive communication skills; ability to synthesize complex financial data to effectively communicate risk/opportunities embedded in the company’s financial statements.
Dedicated to continual process improvement to grow the span of influence of the finance department; ability to be available and flexible to deal with constantly shifting priorities.
Proficiency with Hyperion, Microsoft Office and General Ledger Accounting software packages
