Summary: The Director of Community Relations provides direct support to the operations of Breckenridge Village by representing the organization in the community and employing innovative marketing, branding and community partnership building strategies. The role and responsibilities require high-energy and passion for helping others, specifically people with developmental disabilities and their families. The Director of Community Relations must be able to cultivate relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, and faith and community based organizations. The Director of Community Relations must understand and effectively communicate the Breckenridge Village story that will honor, value, and represent the Breckenridge Village residents and their families to the community at large in such a way as to uphold the positive image of the organization to public and private sectors.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; 5+ years’ experience can be substituted
Experience: 5+ years’ experience in community relations, marketing, and branding. Experience with grant writing and estate planning preferred.

Critical Action Items:
1. In partnership with our Director of Day Program, grow and foster relationships with service organizations that will enrich our residents’ ability to participate in community service.
2. Serve as the representative for Breckenridge Village at community meetings, events, governmental and forums.
3. Oversee the campus activity center operations and engage the community to host events in the space.
4. Plan and execute events and educational activities which increase the visibility of Breckenridge Village in the community.
5. Cultivate partnerships with local legal representatives and financial advisors to provide estate planning pathways for new and current donors who benefit the organization.
6. Research and identify cause-related marketing projects and sponsorship opportunities.
7. Research and identify grant opportunities, write grant proposals, and deliver presentations to potential grantors.
8. Develop and implement communication strategies to improve community relations and engagement.
9. Manage Breckenridge Village’s social media presence.
10. Draft or revise press releases and marketing collateral for the organization.
11. Develop an integrated marketing campaign that effectively tells the story of the organization and provides insightful information to the community, including preparation and distribution of a weekly newsletter.
12. Assist with operations of Breckenridge Christmas Tree Village.
13. Participate in vision and long range growth plans, participate in legislative meetings as required and travel to potential new locations as necessary.
14. Participate in the budgeting process for development and managing expenses.
Measurable Deliverables:
1. Ensure external communication material complies with agency budget needs and branding requirements.
2. Participate in weekly consultation with Executive Director to ensure service and deliverables are met.
3. Provide weekly situational awareness and reports to Executive Director on the status of community engagement activities and unmet needs.
4. Maintain a strong Breckenridge Village presence in Tyler and East Texas communities with approximately 90% of work week in community.
5. Effectively update and use software applications to increase community awareness.
6. Increase new donor contacts/prospects by 25% annually.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Serve on internal and external committees as assigned by the Executive Director.
2. Work effectively with the Executive Director, state licensing representatives, and all funding source entities.
3. Prepare and maintain department reports as assigned.
4. As requested, participate in preparation of strategy and action plans for fundraising in conjunction with the associate executive director of advancement.
5. Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by the position supervisor.
6. Implement Breckenridge Village safety protocols including evacuating with residents and other staff in case of an emergency.
7. Maintain Breckenridge Village professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the Breckenridge Village employee handbook including demonstrating respect for staff, residents, and community members and complying with required dress code.
8. Attend training and seminars as requested.
9. Administer first aid and CPR if necessary.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
1. Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, be well-disciplined and able to meet deadlines, and thrive on challenges and professional independence.
2. Maintain current licenses and certificates required for this position including, but not limited to: First Aid, and CPR (training will be done by Breckenridge Village).
3. Possess a valid Texas drivers’ license and have a good driving record.
4. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
5. Pass all pre-employment background checks including criminal history, employee misconduct, nurse’s aide registry, driving check and pass annual background checks.
6. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screen throughout employment.
7. Know the indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and appropriate reporting and documentation procedures.
8. Practice ethical behavior in and outside the work environment.
9. Employ preventive and de-escalation techniques in crisis intervention.
10. Show appreciation and appropriate affection consistent with professional boundaries to residents.
11. Demonstrate proficient oral and written communication and ease in speaking to small or large audiences.
12. Display a professional appearance and decorum that upholds the core values and mission of Breckenridge Village.
13. Function compatibly and participate constructively in a team environment and maintain professional composure.
14. Demonstrate excellent people acumen, including the ability to work closely and confidentially with all individuals.
15. Demonstrate a team player attitude and positive spirit that creates a collective team atmosphere.
16. Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Residential Services and Day Habilitation policies and procedures.
