POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction and guidance of the Associate Dean of Student Health and Support, the Director of Counseling Services will oversee the daily clinical operations including supervision and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical staff. The Director will identify key issues and service needs of the student population and help assess the department's role in the provision of services while supporting the missions of Academic and Student Affairs. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining records, monthly statistics and trends while providing services which promote the psychological health of students.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee direct counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach services.
- Provide regular intake assessments, individual therapy, and crisis intervention as well as advocate for students when needed.
- Supervise clinical and non-clinical Counseling Services' staff through the development of individual and team goals, monitoring growth and progress, and completing annual performance evaluations.
- Manage master-level internship training program.
- Engage in routine assessment and evaluation of services provided; develop and implement new processes and procedures using a data-informed approach.
- Facilitate regular program meetings with all Counseling Services’ staff and clinical interns.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents when appropriate.
- Develop support systems to meet student's needs by identifying and coordinating a variety of available services external to the College.
- Serve as team member on various Student Affairs Committees, including the Dean of Students' Coordinated Intervention and Response Team and the College’s Behavioral Threat Assessment Team; represent Counseling Services at various campus functions as needed.
- Collaborate with Student Affairs staff and College faculty to integrate mental health services into an array of early warning systems.
- Develop and present workshops, trainings, and seminars as needed.
- Prepare monthly and yearly statistical reports, and other reports as needed.
- Plan, facilitate and coordinate fiscal resources to assure availability and accessibility of services.
- Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities, as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related discipline required.
- Professional licensure and/or certification in the state of IL (LCPC/LCSW) required.
- At least 5 years' of progressively increasing experience in operating a counseling service center and developing programs required.
- Experience in the field of psychology or counseling at the college or university level preferred.
- Experience in clinical supervisor, staff supervision and knowledge of case management software preferred.
- Knowledge of theories and foundations of counseling.
- Knowledge of administration and supervisory techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of community-based social services, mental health and student support agencies or facilities, and their functions.
- Ability to counsel students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
