The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, developing, and administering the operations of the Nursing Division as well as supervising the related employees. This position will be responsible for oversight and control of all vaccine and serves as Portage County Combined General Health District HIPAA Officer.

• Plan, develop and implement Nursing Division activities. Develop, present, and promote public health nursing services. Create and enforce policies aiming for legal compliance and high-quality standards. Ensure adequate training for all PCHD staff for bloodborne pathogens, PPE, and immunizations.
• Provide oversight and coordination of grant projects related to or directly involving public health nursing services. Manage and track division budget.
• Oversight, maintenance, and control of all vaccine.
• Serves as Portage County Combined General Health District HIPAA Officer.
• Oversight of Animal bites and investigations.
• Directs and coordinates clinical services, communicable disease, immunizations, children and adult clinics, Child Fatality, Children with Medical Handicaps, and other nursing programs.
• Assists Health Commissioner and Medical Director in planning, development, and implementation of population health services. Determine return on investment (ROI) for public health nursing services.
• Acts as public health liaison for community boards, advisory councils, coalitions, and committees, to promote collaboration and partnerships to improve population health.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the PCHD policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Attend Board of Health Meetings, nursing meetings or similar activities.

Organizational Duties:

• Participate in quality improvement team projects and quality improvement training initiatives as applicable/ required and incorporate the principles of quality improvement into daily work activities.
• Participates in public health emergency activities as needed.
• Incident Command System/National Incident Management System training.
• Attend and participate in agency training, events, and activities.
• Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public records requests or other reporting obligations.
• Implement performance management and evidenced-based practice evaluations of mandated and non-mandated programs.
• Provide and support opportunities for reporting staff to participate in quality improvement team projects and quality improvement training initiatives and ensure incorporation of the principles of quality improvement into their daily work activities.
