Kildare is one of the 31 County and City Councils who collectively have on average a sectoral revenue spend of over €4 billion and capital spend in excess of €2 billion per annum. Local authorities employ over 28,000 staff or approximately 1/10th of total public service employment.

County Kildare is centrally located in the heart of Ireland with a total population of 246,000. Census figures show that Kildare is one of the fastest growing and youngest population centres in the country (Census 2022). Kildare is bordered by 6 other counties and has a total land area of 1695 km². Kildare houses the hub of Ireland’s network of major roads with the M4/M7 and M9 all passing through it, connecting Dublin to the West and South.

Kildare County Council provides a diverse, comprehensive and evolving range of services to the citizens of the County. These services include the provision of physical and social infrastructure, housing, economic development and enterprise support, tourism development, community development, recreation and amenity services, emergency services and the enforcement of the planning and environmental regulatory framework. These operations are supported by internal services which include ICT, Corporate, Finance and Human Resource functions.

An opportunity now exists in Kildare County Council for experienced Senior Managers to play a leadership role as a Director of Service. Reporting to the Chief Executive, s/he will be responsible for policy implementation, service delivery and change management.

The successful candidate will have:

• A career record that demonstrates the necessary senior level leadership and management skills to manage, develop and motivate a large multidisciplinary team;
• Experience of managing change in a complex and dynamic environment;
• A significant record of achievement of results;
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
