Overview:
The D704 Engineering team is a multi-discipline group consisting of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers. D704 Engineering’s overall responsibility is to support the United States Navy (USN) and other customers by providing planning, execution, and certification services for maintenance and modernization installations. D704 Engineering routinely develops technical work documents (TWDs), such as Task Group Instructions (TGIs) and Deficiency Forms (DFs) for D704 Trades and Vendors to perform.
Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for:
Offsite Maintenance & Modernization Department 704 is responsible for performing Ship Alterations, Installations, and Maintenance work on LOS ANGELES, OHIO, VIRGINIA and SEAWOLF Class submarines.

D704 Engineering routinely develops technical work documents (TWDs), such as Task Group Instructions (TGIs) and Deficiency Forms (DFs) for D704 Trades and Vendors to perform.
Additional areas, include engineering support and resolution of on-site material fabrication issues on VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class.
Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for:
- Planning efforts including development of work breakdown structures, schedules, technical work documents and Liaison Action Requests (LARs).
- Execution efforts including deck plate (trouble desk) support, troubleshooting and resolution of test failures, problem resolution of emergent issues, and development of technical rationale for Departures of Specifications (DFS).
- Certification efforts include providing end of refit ILS products, DFS and LAR Logs, and Selected Record Drawing (SRD) updates.
Specific tasks required by a D704 Engineer include, but not limited to:
- Interpretation and translation of shipbuilding specifications, maintenance requirements, contractual requirements into clear and concise technical direction.
- Provide deck plate support to D704 trades and resolution of emergent issues during execution via technical work documents and pen & inks.
- Understanding maintenance criteria and electrical drawings.
- Development of technical rationale to support approval of non-conforming conditions and communicate these rationales via DFSs, LARs, Deficiency Forms (DFs), Engineering Reports (ERs), and Change Request/Change Notices (CR/CNs).
- Work with in the Special Emphasis Program (SEP) such as SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, and FBW/SFCC.
- Daily interaction with D704 Trades, Program Office, Planning, Materials, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SOSG), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Ships Force, and the Lead Maintenance Activity (LMA).
- Maintaining up-to-date drawings for ship alteration installations and shop fabrication.
Success in this environment requires that every task be accomplished in a collaborative, hands-on, proactive, and deadline-driven yet technically rigorous approach. SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, FBW/SFCC, and Limited Radiation Worker qualifications will be required for certain tasks. Strong written and verbal communication skills shall be utilized and fostered.

- A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in electrical engineering
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to work long hours, alternate shifts, and travel within the continental United States to other shipyards as required by the project
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance as a condition of employment
- Relocation to EB West Maintenance and Modernization Site in Bremerton, WA
Preferred
:
- A strong foundational understanding of engineering concepts
- A strong foundational understanding of technical publications, military specifications, and ships specifications
- Past experience working in a Naval Shipyard environment
- Previous 2+ years of experience related to submarine overhaul and repair is desirable
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products- An aptitude for problem resolution and facing new challenges
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- The capability to work against deadlines and prioritize work assignments accordingly
- Willingness to work outside normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, shift work and emergency overtime may be required
- Comfortable with change and possess ability to adapt to a changing environment
- The candidate must possess strong analytical, cause analysis, communications, organizational, planning, and writing skills under minimal supervision
- Candidates must be willing and physically able to climb steep stairs and ladders, ascend/descend scaffolding, and access confined spaces within a submarine
