Job Overview

As an experienced commercial underwriter you will join the business commercial underwriting team. This team underwrites all Commercial business written by FBD, You will join a team team that works proactively both independently and collectively to achieve target in FBD combined property and liability offerings. You will join and contribute to positive team environment that both motivates and supports each other to achieve goals.

The successful candidate will underwrite and acquire multi line commercial business (property and liability). Working alongside and developing relationships with both broker partners and FBD sales colleagues to achieve FBD’s Growth targets/probability objectives.

The successful candidate should be driven, commercial minded, proactive and confident to make decisions within the FBD support framework to grow FBD commercial business in line with our risk appetite.

Job Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Commercial business in accordance with agreed standards and limits to deliver planned financial results.
  • Actively contributing to the successful growth and development of the Commercial Lines business, through acquisition, while ensuring quality risk selection
  • Execute and adhere to underwriting discipline through ongoing monitoring of selection criteria, rating strength and use of variable pricing tools.
  • Manage referrals & queries for cases within underwriting D.U.A. (Delegated Underwriting Authority) and in adherence to guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of team and with colleagues in other parts of organization to provide excellence in service standards to our customers.
  • Helping develop and successfully implement product strategies and actively participating in the review of the performance of selected lines of business, with particular emphasis on growth and quality risk assessment.
  • Underwriting Commercial business in accordance with agreed standards and limits to deliver planned financial results.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrating initiative whilst operating within a team structure and setting high standards of professionalism in all business dealings.
  • Assisting in the development and mentoring of staff in technical insurance matters.
  • Regular reporting to key stakeholders on new business growth, opportunities, business quality, trends (internal & external) and market developments.
  • Any other duties/responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned in line with company requirement

Education

  • Achieved a professional insurance qualification qualified to a minimum level of Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP). ACII qualification is desirable
  • Meet regulatory requirements as described in the Minimum Competency Code (Source: Central Bank, 2011) and Fitness and Probity Standards (Source: Central Bank, 2012).

Experiences

  • Minimum of 5 years Commercial Underwriting experience in Property and Liability classes.
  • Proven track record of high performance standards.

Competencies

  • Strong technical understanding of Insurance products and underwriting disciplines.
  • A Pragmatic Decision maker with solid underwriting assessment and reasoning skills and an ability to work on own in initiative.
  • Quality focused to provide excellent service to all customers and meet deadlines as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated record in building working relationships within team units and with other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and an active desire to develop knowledge and experience.
  • Ambitious and energetic in their approach to their work and possess a positive outlook.
  • Excellent keyboard skills and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and an underwriting application.
