Job Description
Summary
Working with full-time and student staff, the Fitness Coordinator at MizzouRec at the University of Missouri-Columbia works collaboratively to deliver a comprehensive Fitness and Wellness program for students, faculty, and staff. Programs include group fitness, personal training, well-being programming, and special events. The Fitness Coordinator will help continuously develop new ideas, evaluate staff and programs, and assist with personal training and group fitness as needed. Supervisory responsibilities may include hiring, training, and evaluating student staff members. Supervise and provide development opportunities for 60-75 student staff. Some evening and weekend hours required. This position is responsible for delivering a positive fitness experience for members and clients and implementing procedures for timely customer service and communication.
Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership directing the Group Fitness, non-credit instructional programming, and Personal Training Program.
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating fitness staff (personal trainers, group fitness, non-credit instructional programming).
- Assist with campus student health and well-being initiatives, including special events.
- Develop and provide professional development and continuing education for all Fitness Staff.
- Assist in the maintenance the appearance and condition of all assigned departmental fitness areas and associated equipment.
- Assists with identifying current and future market for services and develop marketing strategy for advertising and promotion of department's products/services in assigned specialty area.
- Provide excellent customer service to our members and guests and ensure proper compliance with department practices and University guidelines.
- Plan, develop, and implement procedures for effective customer service, managing operational costs, achieve sales goals, and net income targets.
- Collaborates with and incorporates underrepresented and historically marginalized diverse populations into Fitness and Wellness planning processes to advance equity.
- Involvement with duties and responsibilities of divisional and university special projects and events, programming, and work groups pertaining to the overall student experience.
- As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve students and maintain the University and MizzouRec mission.

This position is supervised by the Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness.

This position has shared supervision of 75+ student support staff
Salary
Salary Range: $17.43 - $23.08 an hour

Shift
40 hours per week, majority weekdays with some early mornings, nights, and weekend requirements
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Must possess a current Personal Trainer certification with a nationally recognized organization; preferred organizations: American Council on Exercise (ACE), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or other related organization. Along with CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
A Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Recreation, or related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Three to Five years’ experience working in a group fitness/personal training program in a collegiate recreation setting. Education in a related field maybe substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Proficient in InnoSoft Fusion, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, and Zoom.
Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented, as well as handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent presentation skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
