Job Summary

The Local Government Reform Act (2014) introduced the most radical reform to the structure of the Irish Local Government sector for over a century. A significant reform process in line with the proposals in “Putting People First” is currently underway. The programme sets out a wide range of actions to deliver reform in order to address weaknesses, enhance effectiveness and accountability and improve necessary legislative basis to give effect to many of the reform measures set out in the Action Programme.

The Act, together with the Action Programme provide the policy context within which the successful candidate will work and a focused agenda which they will be required to lead and deliver on, as directed by the Chief Executive or such designated person(s) who may be assigned from time to time.

An opportunity now exists in Galway City Council for an experienced Senior Manager to play a leadership role as Head of Finance. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be responsible for policy implementation, service delivery and change management.

The successful candidate will have:

• A career record that demonstrates the necessary senior level leadership and management skills to manage, develop and motivate a large multidisciplinary team;
• Experience of managing change in a complex and dynamic environment;
• A significant record of achievement of results;
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
