Position description
The Mayo Clinic Helicopter Pilot serves as pilot-in-command for Part 135 helicopter air ambulance operations. The pilot will be based at one of our three bases of operation – Eau Claire, WI; Rochester, MN; or Mankato, MN; with an expectation of covering pilot shifts at other bases when necessary.

Mayo Clinic helicopter operations include single-pilot IFR (instrument flight rules) and the use of NVIS (night vision imaging systems). Recurrent training includes annual simulation training.

Mayo Clinic’s core philosophy is “The needs of the patient comes first,” and pilots support this goal by ensuring safe flight operations. The pilot will actively participate in the department’s Safety Management System (SMS). The pilot will perform additional tasks as necessary to support the Mayo Clinic air carrier certificate, as well as policies and accreditation standards for CAMTS (The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) and IS-BAO (International Standards for Business Aircraft Operations).

The pilot's weight must not exceed 250 pounds/114 kilograms and all pilot candidates must hold a current FAA second-class medical certificate. Subsequent FAA medical examinations must be for a first-class certificate and will be completed by the Mayo Clinic Division of Preventive, Occupational and Aerospace Medicine.



Qualifications
Helicopter Instrument Rating. 2,000 total Helicopter Flight Hours. 1,000 total Helicopter PIC Hours. 1,000 total Turbine Hours. 200 Helicopter Night Flight Hours (Aided and/or Unaided).

Additional qualifications
Prefer the following: EC-145 experience; ATP certificate; rotorcraft currency at time of application; NVIS experience; single pilot IFR experience; 75 Hours Actual Weather or Simulated Weather Flight Hours. This is a FAA safety sensitive position that requires passing a Federal level background screen.

License or certification
Current FAA Commercial Certificate with Rotorcraft. Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Schedule details
This position is 0.9 FTE/36 hours per week and pays time-and-a-half for every hour beyond 40 in a week. Shift differential is paid for night and weekend hours. Pilots are scheduled for day and night 12-hour shifts.
