Job Title: RN MEDSURG -International
Duties:
  • Fulfills the needs of the patients, families and community by performing a variety of patient care functions and tasks in accordance with his/her licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements.
  • Delivers care to patients in a competent, capable, caring, and efficient manner.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span necessary to provide age appropriate care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients

Job Title: RN Psych International GPH
Duties:
RN provides professional nursing care in a designated unit in a manner consistent with the philosophy & objectives of GPH. RN prescribes, coordinates & delegates nursing care utilizing the nursing process which is integrated into the treatment team plan. RN is accountable for assigned nursing care activities on a shift basis & is responsible for promoting & enhancing professional nursing practice on the unit. RN is authorized to initiate restraints or seclusion & assess continuation. RN assumes Charge responsibilities as required. Must demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this JD. Demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, & adults.

Exposure to psychiatric patients (PT) who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids & other hazardous waste. Hospital environment.

Physical agility to manage pts with crisis prevention interventions. Push, pull & lift to 50 lbs.
TREATMENT PLANNING PROCESS:
  • Completes initial nursing assessment within 8 hrs. of admission to the unit. Reviews data collected on a comprehensive assessment tool for chief complaints, presenting problems, substance abuse, mental status & the current risk to self or others. Ensures completion of pertinent data
  • Completes pain assessment, fall assessment & functional screening of each patient at the time of admission & implements treatment plan protocol as identified
  • Completes the nutritional screening form & submits it to Dietary
  • Lists all current medications upon admission on the medication’s reconciliation form. Contact MD for admission orders &document such on the medical reconciliation form
  • Completes the brief initial admission note focusing on the reason for admission, mental status, & any other pertinent observations
  • Assign nursing staff to orient the PT to the unit & the program. Ensures body & belonging search is completed. Ensures completion of self-assessment & de-escalation plan
  • Initiates initial MTP, problem description, long/short term goals & treatment modalities based on comprehensive & initial nursing assessment
  • Actively participates in the development & review of MTP with the treatment team
  • Completes all sections & pertinent quality documentation regularly on TPRs
Skills:
MEDICATION PROCESS:
  • Accurately transcribes physician's orders. Recognizes improper/inadequate orders to MD or RN Supervisor before processing
  • Administers prescribed Meds & treatment &documents on MAR records immediately. Ensures PT swallowed the medication
  • Counts narcotics with off-going RN consistently
  • Ensures safe storage & control of meds, keeps medication room clean & organized
  • Identifies need for PRN Meds & documents PT's response to PRN & stats on PRN records & progress notes
  • Teach PTs about their meds, actions, side effects & any contra-indications
  • Completes documentation relating to Med consents on physicians orders, MAR & progress notes
  • Immediately report any medication error & any adverse effects to the physician, family & supervisor.
  • Completes incident reports
  • Reviews Lab & EKG reports.
  • Notifies physician of abnormal results & documents on the progress notes & TPRs
Education:
Graduate from the nursing program is required.
Experience:
One year of prior psychiatric experience in mental health nursing is preferred.
Skills
Licensure/Certification:
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois is required.
  • BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification is required upon completion of orientation. BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.
  • AHA BLS; Active and clear IL RN License
Education:
  • Preferred 1 year of inpatient psych exp.
