A bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in intergovernmental relations, State government Executive and/or Legislative administration, or stakeholder relations. Four years of such experience or an associate’s degree and two years of such experience may be used to substitute for the bachelor’s degree; master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; a J.D. or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience. Candidates must demonstrate a broad and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the New York State Legislature, New York City government and agencies, and substance use disorder services; and possess strong written and oral communication skills.

The Legislative Coordinator will serve as Senior Internal and External Affairs Advisor. Duties will include: acting as a liaison with elected officials at all levels of government and other government agencies, specializing in New York City; acting as a liaison with advocacy and stakeholder groups, developing new relationships and fostering existing relationships; helping to lead community-based initiatives, share information, and collect feedback to gauge community concerns; devising strategies to address community concerns around service changes and construction projects; working with the OASAS Regional Office to track and respond to events that may impact services and initiatives; monitoring legislative proceedings; assisting to prepare for various hearings, meetings, and other events; and representing the agency at meetings. Duties will also include a special focus on issues in the New York City area, including (but not limited to) neighborhoods with high overdose death rates such as Harlem, South Bronx, Hells’ Kitchen, Jamaica Station, etc.
