Job description
The Manager, Data Analytics and Reporting, supports Facilities Finance and Administrative Services (FFAS) to establish and sustain a data driven decision making culture. The Manager reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for FFAS and works closely with FFAS leaders and their respective teams to understand the challenges and opportunities that translate into operational and strategic questions that will benefit from data driven insights. The position also works with data stewards within FFAS and across the University to ensure appropriate access to and sharing of relevant and useful information, and with other data analysts at Princeton University to provide collaborative leadership and support across multiple business functions. This position is essential to helping build the infrastructure, skills, tools, and analytic deliverables (dashboards, reports, training) necessary to support strategic decision-making in Facilities as well as to ensure a strong understanding of our operational work.
With a staff of over 700, spread across 9 departments and 20 shops, Facilities is a multifaceted organization providing support to the entire Princeton University campus. In order to provide the services needed to maintain and grow a world-class institution, Facilities utilizes an operating budget of over $120 million, a capital program expending nearly $300 million a year, and an annual Major Maintenance program of $45 million. FFAS is responsible for providing shared services to all Facilities clients as well as the broader university.
Develop and sustain a data driven decision making culture
Work with Facilities leaders to understand operational and strategic needs and decisions that will benefit from analytics.
- Proactively identify opportunities to leverage data in new ways that deliver insight and enhance decision-making.
- Translate and contextualize findings to provide decision-support and planning information, including highlighting key findings and their implications for action.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, organization, and execution of data related activities like dashboards, reports, and opportunity analyses. Serve as the liaison, facilitator, and coordinator for data project working groups, technical staff, and other stakeholder groups.
- Remain current on trends that affect higher education and develop and maintain relationships with organizations within the university and outside that are using business intelligence tools and strategies. Use insights from this knowledge to suggest analyses and contextualize information within FFAS.
- Develop data-driven management tools, such as scorecards and dashboards, in support of key operational processes across FFAS. This will include establishing and measuring a set of key performance indicators for core business functions.
- Liaison with partners and coordinate data requirements for special initiatives and projects across the organization.
- Organize and manage projects related to developing queries and creating accessible data sources as a single source of credibility across FFAS for correct and consistent reporting.
- Provide data and reporting training and assistance to the FFAS team as needed.
Provide data to support internal and external data requests
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Five-seven years in finance, economics, business analytics, or related business-oriented quantitative analytics experience.
- Strong experience with information design and data models.
- Demonstrated expertise with dashboard and report development, and data analysis with a focus on storytelling and insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, , including the ability to translate business needs into analytic requirements.
- Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and with teams, with high personal standards representative of Princeton University's commitment to excellence.
- Advanced degree
- Working knowledge of Tableau, Cognos, and/or other reporting and data visualization tools
