Merrick & Company is looking for a Mechanical Equipment Engineer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our project office in Aiken, SC. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.

Job Description

Mechanical Equipment Engineer I will work directly with a small team to perform detailed design and analysis of custom equipment, individually and as part of design team. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.

Scope/Key Responsibility

Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures. Detailed design activities include preparation of fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, test plans, and detailed equipment sizing & qualification calculations. Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality. Responsibilities include coordinating detailed phases of design work with other engineering disciplines.

Required Experience

• Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program or an is required.
• An Engineering Technology degree will be considered with a current Fundamentals of Engineer / Engineer In Training (EIT) certification
• Minimum of one (1) year design engineering experience is required.
• Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
• Familiarity with 3D design software Creo (ProEngineer), SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with MathCAD and MS Access a plus.
• Previous experience with NRC, DOE, or DoD projects desired.
• Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs desired.
• Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
• Local candidates preferred.
