Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) is an industry-leading provider for prime satellite and payload capabilities and directed energy and electronics solutions for national security, military, and civil customers. This position will be part of a lean, agile team based within Northrop Grumman’s SSSD organization. The primary statement of work will be grounded out of Airbus OneWeb Satellite factory in Merritt Island, Florida. However, employees must be willing to travel on occasion to Redondo Beach, CA. or another facility within SSSD for training and relevant readiness assignments as required.

Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly and integration of Space Vehicle mechanical and electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and systems. Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Participates in the development of sub-system and system test methodology. Assists with setting up and tests complete prototype and flight units and sub-assemblies under operational conditions. Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks.

Daily tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assemble and integrate units, harnesses, and the payload module.
  • Design tests to verify system requirements.
  • Develop detailed mechanical Integration and test procedures and execute those procedures.
  • Document and remedy test anomalies and hardware non-conformances
  • Coordinate technical disciplines to define operations and accomplish work efficiently.
  • Provide input into the design of flight hardware and custom support equipment.
  • Estimate task durations and execute according to schedules.
  • Participate in all phases of the integration and test of a payload subsystem, SV system, and cross-team collaboration with the Airbus US Bus provider.
  • Successful candidates in this role will have strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required
  • US Citizenship required
  • Two years of experience performing technician competencies
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance or SCI, S, TS Access
  • Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AA degree or other two-year technical degree
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to mechanical assembly, harnessing with a high attention to detail
  • Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements
  • Comprehension with reading drawings, process specification, and work order instructions
  • Experience working in clean room environments
  • Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments
  • Current SCI, S, TS Clearance


Salary Range: $44,800 USD - $74,600 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
