Objective of this post:
The principal objective of the Tutor post is to support students in achieving their educational and clinical learning outcomes associated with the suite of programmes offered in the School of Nursing & Midwifery and to support the Head of School in education and research initiatives within the School of Nursing & Midwifery.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Support students in achievement of educational and clinical learning outcomes associated with the programme of study
- Take responsibility for teaching and assessing across assigned modules and programmes
- Evaluate and grade student assessments across modules and programmes
- Assume responsibility for the planning and delivery of education in other academic areas as assigned by the Head of School of Nursing & Midwifery/Director of Academic affairs
- Act as Programme Director as designated by the Head of School/Director of Academic affairs
- Engage with academic staff of the School of Nursing & Midwifery and the wider RCSI organisation, to enhance education and research capacity within RCSI
- Undertake collaborative research that complements and develops the School’s and RCSI’s academic status and reputation, and contributes to nursing practice and education
- Liaise with relevant programme directors and coordinators to ensure effective partnership working in the delivery of education programmes
- Collate metrics and prepare evaluation reports on the relevant programmes for internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Undergo programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
- Competently discharge administrative responsibilities and participate in College governance structures as directed
- Comply with statutory legislation and department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own, staff and student welfare and safety
- Represent the best interest of RCSI at all times by enhancing the School’s reputation in both nursing practice, teaching and research
- Employ a collaborative ethos in all aspects of academic practice
- Undertake overseas assignments as may be required from time to time, subject to government guidelines
- Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time
Person Specification Essential:
- Relevant graduate and postgraduate qualifications
- Registration as a nurse/midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland
- Evidence of experience and proven track record in Nurse/Midwifery education
- Experience in teaching, assessing and supporting Nursing/Midwifery students at postgraduate level
- Good communication skills and proven ability to work in teams
- Excellent computer, presentation and verbal & written communication skills
- Personal drive, energy and enthusiasm to deliver and inspire the achievement of excellent results
- Strong commitment to quality improvement
- A high degree of self-motivation
- Requires minimum direction, high personal energy, positive approach to dealing with challenges and ambiguity
- Flexibility in work arrangements including undertaking overseas assignments as required
Person Specification Desirable:
- Experience in health education settings, particularly at specialist and advanced practice level
- Training in education
- Experience in curriculum development/delivery
