The applicant must possess good landscaping skills, exceptional visitor service, and a strong work ethic. The applicant will work with other members of the team, or independently.

SUPERVISOR

Where You Will Work:
THE BARNACLE HISTORIC STATE PARK
3485 Main Highway
Coconut Grove, Florida 33133

Coconut Grove - Self-motivated, hard-working individual needed to fill Part-time OPS Park Ranger position (up to 29 hours per week depending upon funding) at The Barnacle, the oldest house in Miami-Dade in its original location. Built in 1891, The Barnacle, home of Ralph Middleton Munroe, renowned yacht designer and community activist, is now a historic house museum and one of Florida’s award-winning State Parks, The Barnacle offers a glimpse into Old Florida and Era of the Bay. Position provides visitor services, maintenance, protection, administration, and resource management. Applicant must possess good visitor service, maintenance, and resource management skills and be able to work independently and work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

NOTE: This OPS position does not include leave or health benefits.

This beautiful house with a whimsical name dates back to a simpler time. Built in 1891, The Barnacle offers a glimpse of frontier life prior to the railroad's arrival, when all travel to and from Miami was by sea. Situated on the shore of Biscayne Bay, this was the home of Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Grove's most charming and influential pioneers. Munroe preserved the forest on his land, cutting out only a narrow buggy trail through the rockland hammock. As a result, the property contains a rich combination of cultural and natural resources.

Left in its natural state, The Barnacle Historic State Park appears much as it did in Munroe's day, complete with replicas of two boats he designed in the late 1800s: Egret, a 28-foot (8.5m) sharpie ketch, and the Flying Proa. The Barnacle is a great place to enjoy simple pleasures: an outdoor concert; a picnic on the lawn; walking with the family dog down a tree-lined path; or rocking in a chair on the spacious front porch and watching sailboats on the bay.
