Physical Requirements
This position requires regularly sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods and consistently walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and performing tasks with repetitive motions.
Shift
Monday through Friday (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm); with potential holiday and weekend shifts as assigned, This position reports to the hospital campus
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Patient Advocate Supervisor, the Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for resolving uninsured inpatient and outpatient accounts by screening the patient for financial assistance, disability, and Medicaid. The representative is expected to be familiar with the hospital and departmental policies and procedures and can utilize all resources within the hospital and department to accomplish the assigned job duties. This position will also provide customer service to patients and families to help ensure that UKHC provides excellent customer service by answering questions, collecting sufficient cash necessary to support healthcare operations, and participating in unit and enterprise activities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. This position is not eligible for a remote work setting and will report to the hospital campus.
This position may be eligible for additional shift differential pay.
This position has been identified as supporting UK HealthCare, which receives funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ( CMS ). Therefore, all individuals hired into this position must comply with the federal CMS mandate issued in March of 2022. This mandate requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID -19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. Start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID -19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented; possess in-depth HIPAA knowledge; have the ability to multi-task with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail; be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); have solid time management, critical thinking, follow-through, and planning and organizational skills; and have a high level of respect for confidentiality.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience
Associate degree; third-party insurance claims follow-up/collections experience; and medical, office, and/or clerical work preferred. Previous experience working with patient accounts/HIPAA is highly preferred.
