We are looking for a Casual Pharmacy Technician. This position is a Day/Evening rotation (Max of every 3rd weekend.) Casual Technicians must work at least 2 shifts per month to maintain proficiencies.

Compensation & Benefits Information:

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $20.37/hour to $30.54/hour, with a median wage of $25.45/hour. This position is also eligible for shift differential pay: $1.25/hour for weekends, $1.00/hour for evenings, & $1.50/nights. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay just one part of the compensation package for employees.   • Adapting to patient variety and complexity.
  • Maintains professional courtesy when faced with pressures from frustrated customers.
  • Prioritizing, organizing, and assisting in the provision of pharmaceuticals to patient care areas.
  • Proactively planning and collaborating with multiple disciplines to ensure patient and family needs are being addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining a professional attitude when faced with multiple interruptions and workflow changes.
  • Maintain competency in all pharmacy areas to provide coverage with open shifts and when staffing issues occurs.
  • Working with multiple insurance companies to receive payment for prescription medications.
  • Communicating daily updates with the next shift during shift changes.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for assisting pharmacists in the delivery of pharmacy services, which maximize outcomes in a manner consistent with Gillette and the department's mission, philosophies and in accordance with laws, regulations and hospital policies and procedures. Prepares and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified time frames. Pharmacy Technicians do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the MN Board of Pharmacy is required, unless licensed as a Pharmacy Intern in which case a technician registration is not required.
  • Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (ExCPT) – OR - Licensed as a Pharmacy Intern with the MN Board of Pharmacy.
    • Pharmacy Technician Certification is required within one year of employment (through PTCB), unless licensed as a Pharmacy Intern.
  • Related hospital experience or combination of education and related pharmacy experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and maintain proficiency in the use of pharmacy equipment and computer systems.
  • Demonstrated attention to details and ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be interested in working with people with disabilities, primarily children & adolescents and their families.
  • Must be able and willing to work required hours.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in institutional pharmacy - minimum 1 yr.
  • Previous experience and training in preparation of sterile products - minimum 1 year
