The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant will deliver comprehensive healthcare under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland/San Francisco and under the administrative supervision of the APP Manager for Pediatric Heart Center UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco. The Physician Assistant will care for patients in the operating room, in the outpatient clinic, and in any inpatient are that cares for pediatric cardiothoracic surgery patients. In the operating room, the Physician Assistant will assist with surgical cases. In the clinic and inpatient areas, the Physician Assistant will be responsible for assessment, evaluation, planning, teaching, and case management of preoperative and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients. The Physician Assistant will primarily work at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco campus and may eventually cross train to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland campus.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Our surgeons also perform many operations using minimally invasive techniques that reduce hospital stays, speed recovery time and decrease scarring.

• Active CA PA license
• Active AHA CPR certification
• Active AHA PALS certification
• Active national board certification (PA-C) by first day of work
• At least 6-months of PA experience in a related clinical area
• Completed an APA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
• Must be able to or already be paneled with Medicare and Medicaid with CMS.
• Demonstrated competence in communication, collaboration, clinical case management, leadership, problem identification and resolution, teaching and research.

• Bilingual Spanish
• More than 6-months of PA experience in a related clinical area

• Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA)
• California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
• Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
• Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
• Must have completed an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
• Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
• Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
• Must hold current AHA PALS as minimum requirement

UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
