GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs duties as necessary to maintain UMMH - Harrington as a safe environment for patients, employees, and the public. Prioritizes and delegates responsibilities, ensures crew understands work assignments. Assesses job priorities and assigns employees to appropriate job sites. Ability to follow and teach standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment operations and maintenance work. Ability to create effective working relationships with employees and the public; ability to motivate employee's to work.
Responsibilities change from day to day depending on the progress of projects and unforeseen events. Some typical duties include: evaluating workmanship and quality, ensuring the project schedule is being met, reviewing any plan discrepancies in the field coordinating activities between subcontractors and resolving any disputes which may arise on the job site. Must be ready to take on the unique challenges daily, with the responsibility of keeping projects on schedule and within budget. Conforms to building codes, and other governing agencies.
Plans layout for, maintains, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment by performing the following duties:
- Plans new (or modified) installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring consistent with specifications and National Electrical Code, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams of blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of walls, ceilings, or flooring.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit.
- Pulls wiring through conduit.
- Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
- Installs control and distribution apparatus such as: switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
- Connects power cables to equipment, such as electrical devices or motor, and installs grounding leads.
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibi8lity and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, batter and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need of adjustment, relocation, or replacements.
- Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
- Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signals, communications, power circuits and equipment.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Five years related experience and/or training equivalent, or a combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years previous supervisory experience required. Familiar with the aspect of remodeling and renovations of areas. Ability to determine and understand aspects of demolition procedures.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of high school diploma or GED required. Current MA electrician license required.
