JOB SUMMARY: This role is primarily one of student where the Practicum Student is in close contact with the Practicum Supervisor in all facets of the position. The
Practicum Student has responsibility to both their University and the practicum site per their individual learning agreement. Under the guidance of the Practicum
Supervisor, this position has responsibility for mental health and case management services to children, adolescents and their families. He/she acts as liaison with
external agencies and collaborates with other clinical and program staff as needed. He/she is involved in macro practice as assigned by the Practicum Supervisor and is
engaged in additional opportunities to encourage both individual and peer professional growth. He/she adheres to the Star View Practicum Student contract throughout
their practicum experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program focused in the field of Mental Health
Experience
- None required
License or Certification
- Valid California Driver License
Examples of Duties (illustrative only):
- Provides support services on an outpatient basis at a school or community site.
- Meets with clients, families and school representatives at school campus as needed.
- Manually Documents client’s behaviors and responses for medical records chart.
- Will demonstrate skills in completing safety screening paperwork.
- May learn aspects of Coordinator Plans for assigned clients, however, requires signature of qualified professionals for approval of Coordination Plans and Service Plans.
- Works with children and families to provide support in skill building as needed and outlined in the Service Plan.
- Responsible with supervisor to monitor ones own Learning Contract.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with referred children and adolescents, their families, school representatives and others as necessary to promote rehabilitation and amelioration of problems which interfere with productive social and emotional daily living.
- Acts as an apprentice under the mindful watch of the Practicum Supervisor to learn the correct procedures to follow regarding assessment, treatment, documentation and collaboration with external agencies (such as Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, Probation Department, Dependency Court, and police) to facilitate youngsters’ adjustment in daily living routines.
- Assists in preparing youngsters for lasting and successful housing, vocational, educational, and treatment experiences. Services include a “whatever it takes” approach and include counseling, shadowing, training, modeling and other interventions deemed necessary.
- Maintains on-going relations with other county agencies, health care facilities, placement centers and other resources necessary to affect the continuum of care for adolescents in the community.
- Interacts and communicates with clinical and non-clinical staff.
