Universities procure a vast array of products and services, from paper napkins to complex scientific equipment, to multi-million dollar construction contracts. Buyer staff at UMD assist campus customers to procure goods and services by managing all aspects of the procurement process from gathering requirements to monitoring post-award compliance.

Experience:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of position requirements.
- General knowledge of procurement or related business procedures that include complex technical routines and basic mathematics skills, including ratios, percentages, and business computations.
- Working knowledge of market value and sources of supply for a variety of supplies, materials and equipment; of competitive bid purchasing principles, methods and procedures.
- Skilled in modern office practices, procedures, systems, and related office software to complete assigned work, while organizing and executing multiple assignments under tight time constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare written records and reports; understand and interpret procurement policies and procedures; provide guidance and training to others; maintain service-quality professionalism under pressure; address confidential matters with discretion; and, ensure compliance to university policy and guiding principles.
- Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, administration or related field.
- Working knowledge of Workday Enterprise Management software or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems would be preferred, but not necessary.
