Description:
The Product Engineer is responsible for product development and launch of laminate products for automotive interiors.
DUTIES:
- Perform technical review of customer requirements, in terms of alignment with OEM specifications. Determine feasibility and capability.
- Engage with customers to determine optimal inspection, packaging and testing requirements for new products.
- Perform BOM risk analysis to determine issues that could cause bad quality, high scrap, or low productivity. Develop counter measures and track success via metrics throughout launch.
- Develop specifications for material properties based on statistical analysis and handle negotiations with customers.
- Attend product validation trials at customers to understand the interaction between the product and customer’s molding application.Drive subsequent trials and improvement activities. Professionally present information and solutions
- Identify and lead VA-VE activities intended to reduce material/BOM costs, improve scrap rates and productivity.
- Drive PPAP testing requirements based on assessment of Tier and OEM’s requirements.
- Support activities related to OEM test package submissions specific to construction approvals.
- Work on engineering change projects, specific to technical activities for the change.
- Perform the update of APQP documentation(DFMEA, Control plan as applicable) and determination of special characteristics for new products
- Communicate to relevant stakeholders (department managers, engineers, leads, supervisors) the new requirements and/or issues associated with each launch and collaborate to address them.
- Complete and document tasks for phase gate review process
- Minimum 4 year degree in Textiles, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering or relevant major.
- 3-5 years in manufacturing.
- Must have excellent computer skills—Excel, PowerPoint, Word required.
- Must be detail-oriented.
- Experience with using statistical software such as JMP/Minitab & Access and Six Sigma certification a plus.
- Good technical problem solving skills. Experience with soft materials (textile fabrics, polyurethane foams, nonwovens, plastic films) and dynamic material testing is a plus.
- Knowledge of automotive OEM specifications and test methods a plus.
- Able to think clearly in stressful situations, willingness and ability to work with people with varying priorities. hands-on attitude.
- Process engineering background desired, molding or forming experience a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Bilingual—Spanish proficiency a plus.
- Ability to travel at least 30% and work flexible hours.
