The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future (CLF) is seeking a Program Specialist (PS) to provide program coordination and content expertise in support of its ongoing technical assistance and science advisory roles with the Meatless Monday (MM) Campaign (www.meatlessmonday.com). The PS may also contribute to work related to other CLF areas of focus, as assigned.

The PS is a core member of CLF's Meatless Monday Technical Assistance (MMTA) focus area team, and contributes to CLF initiatives involving public health research, education, and practice activities, primarily those related to MM. The PS works closely with, and is supervised by, the Senior Program Officer (SPO) overseeing CLF's work regarding public health and the food system topics that are tied primarily to supporting the goals and objectives of the MM focus area.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Specific roles and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following,
Work closely with CLF and other Johns Hopkins University (JHU) colleagues to engage and mobilize expertise to enable the provision of a range of technical, scientific and programmatic assistance to the MM campaign per CLF's established roles and collaborative relationship, including research and evaluation activities, partnership development, communication of science, public health advocacy, and educational outreach.
Work closely with the SPO, PO and MMTA team to coordinate the development of an online resource center housing select MM resources, legacy materials, and core content related to sustainable, healthy food consumption and production.
Work with senior staff, the MM campaign and other partner organizations to develop communication materials, conduct outreach activities and develop workplans for activities related to the resource center and in support of the MM campaign.
Manage activities that strengthen the scope of involvement and commitment to the MM Campaign at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and JHU overall (e.g., MM activities in cafeterias, symposia, events, etc.).
Contribute to and/or coordinate multiple aspects of MM-related research, education, and policy activities, including research projects evaluating the implementation of MM in various settings, such as schools, healthcare, work sites and communities.
Initiate and manage the processing of internal approval documents, as well as IRB applications, to ensure adherence to the CLF's and JHU policy and procedures.
Establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships with colleagues throughout CLF, JHU, and with partner organizations that work on the MM campaign.
Coordinate the implementation of project work plans supporting clear objectives that are aligned with the goals of the MMTA Focus Area.
Conduct and/or oversee literature reviews, generate research summaries on topics relevant to MM and sustainable diets, gather and contribute to the analysis and synthesis of data re: meat consumption/production to inform MM promotion activities.
Assist with the development and adaptation of toolkits and materials needed to implement MM within various cultures and settings globally, particularly those identified for inclusion in the MM Resource Center.
Perform other roles and responsibilities at CLF as assigned and agreed upon with the supervisor.
Demonstrated critical thinker, problem solver, and skills in project management.
Exceptional organizational, writing, and research skills in public health and food system topic areas.
Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) and interact with diverse groups of people within and outside the School, including faculty, program and administrative staff, and donor, to ensure that services and interactions are appropriate.
Ability to read and synthesize a variety of scientific reports and papers and translate them for various audiences. integrating information from multiple sources
Ability to assess, plan and implement projects, and to manage and prioritize across multiple tasks.
Knowledge of and proficiency in using MS Office Suite software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint -and experience in analysis and presentation of information.
Sensitivity to --and commitment to the need for timely communication.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues as an effective team member.
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive center.
Occasional domestic travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in public health, nutrition, environmental sciences, or related discipline.
Three years of related experience.
Demonstrated project management and research or evaluation experience. Strong writing skill related to science translation. Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent the JHU equivalency formula permits.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree preferred.
Relevant work experience on food systems issues within an academic environment or with a non-profit organization is a plus.
Registered dietitian a plus. Website design or marketing skills are also a plus.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
