Overview:
The Radiology Assistant works under the direct supervision of the registered Radiologic Technologist and is responsible for basic supportive care to specified patients/families. This position assists in providing Radiographic services that support the Radiology Mission of high quality, efficient care with emphasis on serving the unique needs of each customer. This position will emphasize customer service as a first priority with each employee adopting the department's "The Way We Care" philosophy. This position will demonstrate competencies in providing age-appropriate care to patients from birth through age 21 years, and selected adult patients.

This position requires constant talking, hearing, standing, stooping, lifting, hand dexterity, bending, walking, and seeing to effectively perform varied General Radiography procedures (100%)
Essential Job Functions: Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.Must be able to independently lift up to 50 lbs.Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.

1. Supports the philosophy and objectives of Children's Hospital and the Radiology Department interprets these to patient, parents, and hospital staff.
2. Maintains a responsible attitude toward individual performance in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
3. Prepares patients for plain film and Fluoroscopy procedures in accordance with established protocols.
4. Prepares all related documentation for procedures as prescribed by section protocols.
5. Enter, modifies, and cancels RMS orders as requested by Staff Radiographer.
6. Maintains stocking of accessory supplies, patient care items, and cleanliness of general radiographic areas.
7. Assist with transportation of patients to the Emergency Department following radiographic procedures.
8. Maintains knowledge of current applications in the field of Radiologic Technology through seminars, educational programs, and self-study.
9. Responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks and direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Technologist.
10. Responsible for performing a variety of non-technical tasks and indirect patient care activities.
11. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other departments/service lines, physicians and staff.
12. Establishes and maintains strong positive communication with patients and families.
13. Represents the department?s customer service focus to both internal and external contacts. This shall include appropriate speech, mannerisms, and personal presentation as outlined in the Radiology Department Code of Conduct.
14. Complies with radiation and general safety policies.
15. Complies with CHI, Radiology, JCAHO, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines and policies.
16. Assists with the implementation of established safety regulations and required to respond correctly in emergency situations including: code blue, contrast media reactions, emergency operations plan, and trauma alerts.
17. Accepts other duties, responsibilities and/or special projects as assigned by Department Manager, 2nd /3rd shift Team Leader, or designated Staff Radiographer to maintain section and department function.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school graduate or equivalent.
Currently a student in an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
Minimum of three quarters experience as a student radiographer preferred.
Ability to learn new procedures and follow instructions.
Possesses a high level of professionalism and the ability to establish good rapport with patients, staff, and physicians.
Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
Current CPR certification required.
