About the role


We are currently seeking a highly motivated RD&A Senior Technologist – Bakery Enzymes to join our Applied Enzymology team in the development of next generation enzymes for the food, feed and beverage industry.

Based in our state of the art Global Technology & Innovation Centre (GTIC) in Naas, Co. Kildare and reporting directly to the RD&A Senior Scientist – Bakery & Food Enzymes, the RD&A Senior Technologist will directly assist in the technical development of enzyme products which provide innovative enzyme solutions for primarily the bakery but also including the brewing, animal & human nutrition and nutritional beverage end use markets (EUMs), as part of the our Applied Enzymology team, with a global footprint.

Key responsibilities


  • Conducting enzyme activity analysis through biochemical assays and utilizing such methods to understand/predict enzyme performance under defined environmental conditions (pH, temperature, inhibitors, food & feed matrix)
  • Support the conducting lab/pilot scale application trials order to assess, under conditions mimicking the industrial environment, enzyme performance in delivering benefits to our customers, e.g taste, machinability, processing capability, nutritional.
  • Collaborating with internal Bakery End Use Market teams to assess performance of new/existing enzyme technologies in application
  • Assist in experimental design contributing to the formulation of robust experiments that will confidently drive advancement of research, product development/optimisation and support of project decision-making. Technical reporting of experiments supporting timely Applied Enzymology RD&A project delivery and technology transfers.
  • Accurately recording data in accordance to guidelines
  • Liaising with research/scientific staff within numerous internal Kerry teams.

Qualifications and skills


  • Minimum BSc. in Biochemistry/Microbiology/Biotechnology/Food Science or related field.
  • Proven skills in enzyme activity assays and/or wet chemistry methods, including method development, whether in industry or academic setting, is a strong advantage
  • Experience with Bakery End Use Market process applications considered a strong advantage. • Ability to implement a range of analytical techniques and equipment to carry out research objectives pertaining to Bakery & Food EUMs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Competence in writing technical documents such as research reports, SOPs, etc.
  • Proficiency with Excel or other data processing/visualization software.
  • Experience in troubleshooting of laboratory equipment is advantageous.
  • Experience working in collaborative and multi-cultural environments is a plus.
