The Employee Health Nurse works to ensure the health and wellness of employees for our employees and facility. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.


SUMMARY

The Employee Health Nurse works to ensure the health and wellness of employees for our employees and facility. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

1. Conducts new on-hire health screenings and annual employee health screenings to include health history, immunizations updates and brief physical assessment.

a. Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources.

b. Offers health promotion incentives and educational materials.

c. Conducts TB screening for all new employees, all other employees and volunteers according to the hospital TB control plan.

d. Provides immunizations by injection including, but not limited to, Flu vaccine, Hepatitis B, tetanus, MMR, etc.

e. Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases.

f. Assists lab with scheduling new employee urine drug screens.

2. Works in a modified case-management role in cooperation with insurance and workers’ compensation carriers.

a. Provides initial assessment of employee injuries

b. Receives and maintains any and all documentation in regards to employee injury (notes from doctor, etc.).

c. Collects and monitors return to work assessments.

d. Tracks the needle-stick exposure protocol compliance.

3. Performs and maintains documentation.

a. Maintains employee health records.

b. Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting.

c. Maintains documentation on new hire urine drug screens and reasonable suspicion urine drug screens.

d. Maintains documentation of employee infections and monitor return to work patterns. Report exposures of infectious diseases to state lab.

4. Provides orientation to all new employees on the importance of infection control and their responsibility in the program.

5. All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Directly responsible to the Director of Quality & Safety Officer.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, employees occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification III, as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

1. Bachelors degree (B.S.N.), Associates degree (A.D.N.) or Diploma from an accredited college of nursing.

2. Minimum of one year of related experience and/or training.

3. Management experience is preferred.

COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska.

2. Current BLS certification.
