We are currently in the early stages of building a brand new Global Automation Business Unit for the Whiskey Industry. This division will be responsible for product development, design, engineering and deployment of automation solutions at global customer distillery and maturation sites. Automation, Robotics, Vision Systems, Industry 4.0, IOT & Cloud - we will offer a full suite of solutions.

This new division will be based out of Cork Ireland, however due to the nature of our global ambitions we are open to remote roles to get the right people.

The Role
We are now seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our Product Development Team for our Global Automation Whiskey Business Unit. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, you will work with a team of talented professionals in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment, where your primary role will be to develop leading edge industrial/manufacturing automation solutions through a combination of hands-on Research, Development & Innovation in the area of Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0.
Your challenge will be to develop advanced automation solutions based on the best in class technologies, which can be packaged and deployed globally. Robotics, Vision guided robotics, 3D Vision Systems, Industry 4.0, IOT & Cloud are just some of the areas of interest! This position will work in full collaboration with our Sales and Marketing Team, our Engineering and Deployment teams and other functional areas across the business division.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop concepts for advanced automation solutions to meet the needs of our customers.
- Visit and engage with clients at varying stages of product development to understand their requirements.
- Input to the strategic vision for the product(s).
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of designers, engineers, marketing, sales and management to develop, execute, and release in alignment with product roadmaps.
- Work with various teams to understand regional regulations that impact product requirements.
- Be a member of the product development team and actively participates in the design and development tasks.
- Move products from vision right the way through to packaged systems suitable for market launch.
- Transition the product vision into an actionable automation & engineering development stages.
- Concept Development : Generate advanced automation concept based on the best in class technologies.
- Prototype and Analysis : Develop product concept to a working prototype (MVP – minimum viable product). Stress test technology and system performance. Analyse both technical and commercial aspects of the MVP.
- Engineering Development: As part of the product development team you will develop the full engineering specification, design and programming packages, operating and assembly manuals for all aspects required in preparing the product for market release.
- Drive product enhancements that increase customer value, create efficiencies, and grow revenue.
- Depending on your area of expertise you will be responsible for the electrical design, programming and testing of Robotics, Vision guided robotics, Vision Systems (2D & 3D), MES, Scada, PLCs, Industry 4.0 or IOT.
- Electrical design will be one of your core strengths.
- These systems will then be integrated with other plant and production equipment at our customer sites where you will be a key member of the installation and commissioning teams.
- Work with key vendors to deliver automation sub-systems. Visit key vendors both nationally and internationally to ensure all project automation deliverables are met.
- As Safe Automation is one of our core businesses you will design the safety related control system part of the automation and machinery solutions for our customers…..we can teach you this bit!.
- You will provide the necessary documentation to our customers for operation and maintenance and of our systems.
- Following installation, you will provide remote support to customer personnel to ensure all equipment runs efficiently.
- This role is based in Cork (or remotely for the right candidate), some travel will be required (approx. 25%).
The Person
You will be an experienced Automation Engineer with a strong foundation in industrial automation systems. You love to engage in technical problem solving and enjoy building automation solutions from the ground up. You are an individual who will seek out new sources of information and technologies that will deliver on our overall business strategy. You are an individual who is always thinking of new ways to add value through the use of technology. You are not afraid to push the boundaries of technology in the pursuit of solutions that may not already exist.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor Degree in engineering (electrical, automation, physics & instrumentation etc).
- 5+ years’ experience in industrial automation.
- Agile experience would be an advantage.
- Scrum Master experience would be an advantage.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, must have facilitated team collaboration sessions.
- Fluency in developing electrical drawings, cable schedules and termination diagrams.
- Software programming and configuration of automation systems and equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in the design and installation of one or more technical aspects related to machine elements such as Electrical, Automation, Robotics, MES, PLC, Scada systems.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment on automated production equipment.
- Able to work well in a cross functional team environment.
- Excellent organisation, communication and presentation skills.
- Systematic troubleshooting skills.
- Strong leadership on technical issue resolution.
- Experience in the installation and commissioning of electrical/automation projects at customer sites.
- Experience directing site team such as electricians and OEMs.
- International experience would be an advantage.
