Several full-time positions available with the Water Department, Stormwater Preventative Maintenance, Wastewater Repair, and Wastewater Preventative Maintenance Division located at 1800 Prospect Ave and Wastewater Treatement Division located at 7300 Hawthorne Road
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Stormwater: Monday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Wastewater Treatment: Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; Wastewater Repair: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., or Friday-Monday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Wastewater Preventative Maintenance: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
Stormwater:
- Operates sewer cleaning equipment.
- Possesses significant knowledge of the operations of sewer cleaning equipment.
- Possesses significant knowledge of the operation of jet rodders, power rodders, and other equipment used in the cleaning of sanitary sewers.
- Must be able to read sewer atlas maps to locate sewer lines, manholes, and locations.
- Responds to all emergencies.
Wastewater Treatment:
- Involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of heavy construction equipment entailing considerable manipulative difficulty in operation.
- Operates equipment as bulldozers, graders, rollers, ditching machines, dump truck and, trailer crane truck, street sweeper, front end loader, backhoe, street flusher, roll off container truck, trash truck, skid loader, track loader, swap loader, snow removal equipment, grass cutting equipment and trailer overhead cranes and clamshells and related equipment.
- Makes routine field adjustments and repairs to equipment.
- Conducts safety inspection of equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to safely operate assigned equipment, perform basic maintenance based on own knowledge, and read operating manuals or instructions for equipment.
Wastewater Repair:
- Operates heavy construction equipment in excavating and repairing sewer main lines throughout the sewer collection system.
- Operates multiple pieces of complex Wastewater equipment such as heavy dozers, heavy excavators, heavy cranes, heavy tandem dump trucks, heavy duty backhoes, and heavy tractor trailers for transporting heavy equipment on oversized trailers.
Wastewater Preventative Maintenance:
- Operates sewer cleaning equipment.
- Possesses significant knowledge of the operations of sewer cleaning equipment.
- Possesses significant knowledge of the operation of jet rodders, power rodders, and other equipment used in the cleaning of sanitary sewers.
- Must be able to read sewer atlas maps to locate sewer lines, manholes, and locations.
- Responds to all emergencies.
Qualifications
REQUIRES 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of heavy and complex construction and maintenance equipment, including 1 year at the level of Equipment Operator. Must possess a valid state –issued driver’s license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid MO Class A, B, or C CDL prior to the end of the employee’s probationary period asdetermined by the department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. For Wastewater Treatment: Preference given to applicants with a valid CDL issued by the State of Missouri.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
