Senior Lead MRI Technologist/Clinical Coordinator

This team member maintains quality control for the Radiology Department and supervises technical and support staff. This position requires initiative and independent judgment. In an effort to maintain consistency of quality throughout the department, the Day, Evening, Overnight and Outpatient Pavilion Lead Technologists will report to the Senior Lead technologist.. The senior lead technologist will report to the Weekday Diagnostic Technical Manager . Certain functions of the Director may be delegated on occasion. Assumes responsibility for all aspects of the clinical training of affiliating student radiographers from Montgomery College and Northern Virginia Community College; this includes both 1st and 2nd year students. As a radiographer, must perform a variety of technical procedures that will require ingenuity and initiative in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.

• Graduate of an accredited program in a radiologic technology required.
• Five years of experience required.
• Five years of Supervisory experience preferred.
• Registered with the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) required.
• BLS Certification required.

• Responsible for creating and maintaining efficient operations and workflow in addition to enhancing the turnaround time demonstrated between departments.
• Handle emergency calls necessitating calling in emergency staff, a radiographer, and on call administrator. Is knowledgeable of all call back procedures for various modalities.
• Assist with transportation to ensure that all transport tasks are addressed within a timely manner when the immediate Supervisor is not available.
• Advises and makes recommendations to all Radiographers and students, if applicable, concerning procedures, positioning, and/or technical factors.
• Provide assistance in the review and update of the Department policy and procedure manuals and make informed recommendations for change.
• Has the authority to make independent decisions regarding the function of the Day, Evening, Overnight and Out Patient Pavilion technologists
• Assigns personnel to coordinate activities within the Department and with other departments and services of the Hospital to promote better continuity of care.
• Has the authority to enforce the departmental and facility policies through coaching and disciplinary action if necessary
• Responsible in assisting with performing weekly follow-up phone calls and rounding.
• Mediate individual problems and refer any unresolved problems to appropriate staff.
• Communicates with and effectively engages patients of diverse age groups providing all patients with the information and explanation they may need to understand and cooperate with the procedure(s) at hand.
• Document allergies and pertinent patient history according to exam being performed from patient, or designated parent/legal guardian.
• Take adequate patient histories. Communicate all information to performing Radiologist.
• Review preparation activities with the Radiologist prior to performing an invasive, fluoro, or contrast procedure
• If applicable, prepare exam room for the corresponding Radiologist of outside physician performing the procedure.
• Obtain written consent for all contrast media procedures from patient, designated parent, or legal guardian.
• Consider patient age and weight.
• Use collimation and shielding on all patients. Provide lead aprons or other protection to persons near x-ray exposure.
• Utilize all age-appropriate devices and techniques to obtain a quality exam using minimal radiation exposure.
• Position and transfer patients safely, have constant awareness of all patient attachments.
• Apply sterile techniques on appropriate examinations.
• Assess potential for skin integrity
