Job Description:

A. POSITION PURPOSE:


Loads and unloads trucks, and moves materials within facility, Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.


B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe acts and conditions, (one per month); uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Works and acts in support of all safety, environmental, and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Be proficient in the essential duties and responsibilities for Material Handler I
  • Load and unload trucks per procedure.
  • Pull and stage customer orders per procedure.
  • Ship small packages via package carrier.
  • Inventory materials in Warehouse.
  • Tag raw material in Protraq. Receive raw material in E1. Track raw material on the raw material log.
  • Assists in keeping warehouse clean and organized.
  • Utilizes Silgan computer systems.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, packing slips, or other records.
  • Uses RF Scanner to verify and track every carton and/or pallet of product. Affixes shipping labels on cartons or pallets identifying shipping information.
  • Examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Verifies placement of incoming materials into proper locations.
  • Enters data in computer and prints appropriate shipping documents.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies and troubleshoots inaccuracies.
  • Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, Quality and HACCP Pre-requisite Programs related to activities performed for this position.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Skills and Abilities

Must be able to safely drive forklift and operate other mobile equipment. Ability to use a pallet jack and hand dolly

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ED Edwards, SAP, or general understanding of business systems as they apply to warehousing operations.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Forklift certification required. DOT certificate a plus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The warehouse is not temperature or humidity controlled so outside weather conditions may affect both at times throughout the year.
