Description

The City of South Lake Tahoe is recruiting for multiple Maintenance Technician V positions, focused on snow removal. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2023.

This position is eligible for overtime at the following rates:
Regular overtime: $55.1643/ hour
Double time: $73.5524
On-call rate: $12.69

This position receives seasonal holiday pay, on-call pay and compensatory time (if employee selects to earn comp time versus OT). Compensatory time is calculated at 1.5 times regular time. Compensatory time is paid out at the end of the season when employee departs from the City.

Examples of Duties

Note: All Operations Division Employees will perform snow removal functions regardless of functional area specialties.

• 
  Safely operates all vehicles and equipment such as trucks, sanders, snow plows, snow graders, snow blowers, and large trailers.
• Inspects snow removal equipment at beginning and end of shift.
• Provide fuel, lubricants and materials as needed.
• Formulates and mixes brine solutions as assigned.
• Inventories abrasives and de-icing material stockpiles and recommends quantity replacements.
• Inventories and reports on snow removal operations damage to public and private property under supervision of Lead Maintenance Technician
• Reports on NPDES abrasives collection
• Assists in emergency services as required.
• May be required to assist in snow removal code enforcement.
• Works nights/weekends/holidays as required, will be required to work 12 hr. shifts.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Two years full time experience as a Maintenance Technician IV or six years of general maintenance and construction work in two or more of the following functional areas:?? parks, streets/storm drainage, facilities, snow removal.

Certificates/License Requirements:

• 
  Possession of a valid Class B California or Nevada driver's license (commercial driver's license subject to Department of Transportation drug testing requirements and DMV pull notice program).

If appointed from an internal position, must possess Class B prior to appointment. If hired from outside of City employment, must obtain within 6 months of hire.

Depending on assignment and operational needs, some positions may require one or more of the following certificates:

• Tanker Endorsement
• Qualified Applicators License Categories B, C, F, G
• California Landscape Contractors Association Certificate in Landscape Maintenance, Landscape Construction and Irrigation Installation
• IMSA Traffic Control Signs and Markings Level II
• IMSA Roadway Lighting Level I
• Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate
• Confined Space Entry Certification
• Certified Pool Operators License (CPO)
• IMSA Traffic Safety Specialist and Traffic Safety Through Work Zones Certificate
• Journeyman Electrician Rating
• Hazardous Materials Certification
• HVAC Certification
• Boiler and Chiller Certifications

Incumbents must be willing to work mandatory overtime when required; may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as required in emergency situations.

Special Requirements - Safety regulations prohibit incumbents from wearing contact lenses when working with certain chemicals. Incumbents in positions requiring use of a respirator are prohibited from wearing beards or other facial hair which prevents a proper respirator fit.
