About The Team:

The Auctane Engineering Tech and Data team does one thing first - provide our customers with world class production software. This team ensures that our customers experience a fast and reliable system and provides our engineering teams with the tools to deploy, monitor, and maintain our production systems.

About The Role:

The SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) position is a unique opportunity for an individual with prior experience seeking new challenges and an opportunity to further develop his/her SQL Server database administration skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring, maintaining, and supporting all SQL Server databases
  • Maintaining reliability, stability, and data integrity of the databases
  • Providing support in the administration, backup, and security of various SQL databases
  • Responsible for database tasks from software upgrades and server patching, to troubleshooting and configuration of new servers, and,
  • Continually assess, improve, and optimize our current database environment

Primary Objectives:

  • Monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput
  • Monitor and maintain database maintenance tasks for backups, indexes, and statistics
  • Manage SQL Server Installations, Upgrades, Migrations and Configurations
  • Install database software service packs and cumulative updates as necessary
  • Maintain database documentation as required
  • Maintain and administer database security access
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity and performance issues
  • Follow Change Management processes to implement database changes
  • Proactively monitor and respond to MSSQL database Alerts.
  • On-call requirements to ensure 24 x 7 support of database operations
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts in enhancing database performance and providing increased functionality, including performing maintenance, monitoring activity, and documenting problems, changes, and solutions
  • Manage the storage environments of the databases, including optimal sizing, monitoring space, adding additional storage, and providing growth statistics.
  • Create tables, views, indexes, views, stored procedures, and other database objects as needed.
  • Perform routine backup and recovery testing, including testing and documenting recovery scenarios.
  • Work with application/development teams to assist in overall database design, helping developers tune queries, design proper indexes, and aiding developers in the creation of stored procedures.
  • Extract data from the database servers and load into the data warehouse

What We Are Looking For:

  • 2 years experience as a database administrator in a SQL Server environment
  • 2 years experience in Transact SQL, SSIS package development
  • 2 years of SQL Server database development
  • Experience administering SQL Server 2014, 2017, 2019 databases
  • Experience with Monitoring & Diagnostic tools
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

What will Make You Stand Out (if applicable):

  • Prior experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL databases
  • Experience working with Windows server, Active Directory, and disk configurations
  • Experience in fine tuning indexes for performance improvement.
  • Experience with very large databases (VLDB)
  • Experience in security concepts as they relate to SQL Server.

  • SQL Server
  • SentryOne, New Relic, Solarwinds DPA, and CloudWatch.
  • Windows Server Failover Clustering, Availability Groups, and Database Mirroring
  • Data Warehouse platforms such as Amazon Redshift and reporting tools such as SSRS and Looker.
  • Various data sources such as MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Excel, Text Files, and Amazon Redshift.
