What does Stormwater Maintenance do?
Stormwater is responsible for maintaining native vegetation, erosion control structures, water conveyance systems including underground piping, open channels (natural & improved), detention and retention ponds, system inspection and verification of storm drain infrastructure.
What are some of the main job duties of a Stormwater Maintenance Worker?

Maintain and repair storm drainage systems, inlet structures, erosion control structures, water conveyance systems, including underground piping, open channels (natural & improved), green Infrastructure, detention and retention ponds and system inspections.

Perform construction, operation, repair, and maintenance on assigned system inspections.

Participate in housekeeping duties, grounds and building maintenance.

Perform work in confined spaces.

Perform on-call duties and overtime as required, including snow removal. Information regarding schedules and expectations are shared as early as possible as snow and ice enter the forecast.
How much does a Stormwater Maintenance Worker earn? Starting pay is between $18 and $21 per hour depending on experience.
Experience and Education Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Minimal experience to five years or more experience preferred in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resources, landscape maintenance, horticulture, or related field.
Stormwater Maintenance Worker I: This is an entry level position. One year experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resources, landscape maintenance, horticulture or related field is preferred, but not required.
Stormwater Maintenance Worker II: At least two to three years’ experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resources, landscape maintenance, horticulture or related field is required.
Stormwater Maintenance Worker III: Between three to five years’ experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resources, landscape maintenance, horticulture or related field is required.
Education: Education: High School diploma or GED required.
License Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record.
- Must obtain a Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months of hire. We will provide you with opportunity to earn your CDL by participating in the City's CDL training program. You'll be provided time during the workday to complete the self-paced portion of the training. It's up to you to pass the testing, but our goal is to set you up for success.
- Must pass a DOT physical once CDL is issued.
- Work Zone Safety Certification, flagging, confined space, shoring and snow fighter training must be obtained within one year of hire.
