POSITION:

Adult Substance Abuse Counselor-I

DUTIES SUMMARY:

The Substance Abuse Counselor I is a qualified staff member who is responsible for maintaining a caseload, conducting group facilitation, and individual sessions.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

-Responsible for maintaining a caseload

-Facilitate the development, preparation, and implementation of client’s treatment plans to ensure the formulation of realistic and attainable long- and short-term goals, under the direct supervision of a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or master’s level counselor

-Maintain client files in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Wit’s systems in accordance with agency, state, and contract standards

-Facilitate skill building, process, education, and treatment groups.

-Facilitates and participates in the development of multiple service plans and assist clients and their families in identifying available services and formal and informal resources

-Track weekly and monthly census and ensure clients are seen for IC’s weekly. Meet deadlines.

-Submit weekly referral and progress update letters and good communication with referral sources

-Provide case management services to regularly assigned case load of clients, ensuring client linkage to appropriate programs and community resources

-Prepares and submits all required client insurance and treatment documentation forms and reports in a timely manner (48hrs).

-Responsible to complete discharge summary within five (5) days of discharge and initial intakes.

-Observe federal regulations governing the confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse patient records (42CFR). Observer HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act, 1996)

-Attend weekly staff meetings as required

-Assist with other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in related field
• Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in the field of Substance Abuse/Mental Health
• Hawaii State Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) certification-required.

Requirements:

• Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance (within the last 12 months)
• Medical/Physical Clearance (within the last 12 months)

Ability/Knowledge/Skills:

• Advanced computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Knowledge and experience working with Electronic Health Records.
• Able to work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail oriented, able to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
